[Retroperitoneal germinal tumor: extragonadal or burned out phenomenon of testicular primary? Presentation of a clinical case].

Clinical record case of a retroperitoneal seminoma with "burned-out" phenomenon in the testicular primary, in a 38 year old male with no background of interest who consults for a picture of left nephritic colic. The ipsilateral testis study detects a fibrotic area with hyalinosis and hemosiderin deposits, although there are no tumoral debris, compatible with the "burned-out" phenomenon. Management is through surgery plus a chemotherapy protocol. Discussion of the diagnostic algorithm of retroperitoneal tumours and the literature on extragonadal germinal tumours.

[Percutaneous suprapubic bladder lithotripsy].

The authors present a case of multiple bladder stones in a patient with severe ankylosis of the lower extremities, treated via percutaneous suprapubic approach. The suprapubic tract was created with Teflon-coated dilators and an Amplatz tube and the stones were fragmented with the nephroscope and a pneumatic lithotriptor. The simplicity of the procedure and the ease of the manoeuvre accelerated the stone fragmentation process while avoiding unnecessary trauma of the urethra.

[The double J catheter in the shock wave treatment of kidney calculi].

Review of the literature concerning the use of Double J stents prior to extracorporeal shock were lithotripsy. The advantages and disadvantages of stenting are described together with the marked benefit derived from the pretreatment use of the stent. The authors also try to determine which stones are suitable for preliminary stenting, by noting the degree of stone mass.

A study of rDNA magnification phenomenon in a repair-recombination deficient mutant of Drosophila melanogaster.

The rDNA magnification process consists of a rapid and inheritable rDNA increase occurring in bobbed males: in a few generations the bb loci acquire the wild-type rDNA value and reach a bb+ phenotype.--We have analyzed the rDNA magnification process in the repair-recombination-deficient mutant mei9a, both at the phenotypical and rDNA content levels. In mei9a bb double mutants the recovery of bb+ phenotype is strongly disturbed and the rDNA redundancy value fails to reach the wild-type level. The strong effect of this meiotic mutation on rDNA magnification suggests a close relationship between this phenomenon and the repair-recombination processes.
