The authors observed 8 patients with supernumerary molars (12 teeth in all). In accordance with Bolk's classification the authors found 5 paramolar teeth and 7 distomolar teeth (fourth molars). Four most typical cases are described.
The results of cross-bite treatment in the period of milk teeth and at the beginning of teeth exchange were analysed. In 49 cases (81%) out of 60 treated at the time of milk teeth good therapeutic results were obtained (cure in 51% and improvement in 30%). In 60 cases (80%) out of 75 treated in the beginning of the exchange the results were good (cure in 42% and improvement in 38%). Devices used by the patients and the length of time during the day and the length of the treatment are described.
The results are presented of treatment of 20 patients with malocclusion of the cross bite type. Their age was from 3 to 6 years. In most cases functional devices were used. Complete cure was achieved in 60% of cases. Treatment duration was from 6 months to 4 years. The analysis of the therapeutic results obtained in milk teeth or at the time of permanent incisor eruption confirmed the good effects of early treatment of cross bite as suggested by other authors.
