New anilinotropone-based titanium complexes: synthesis, characterization and application as catalysts for olefin polymerization.

New titanium(IV) dichloride complexes containing 2-anilinotropone ligands have been synthesized and characterized. Bis(ligand)titanium dichloride complexes 1 and 2 were synthesized from reaction of TiCl4(THF)2 with 2 equivalents of the corresponding sodium salts of 2-(2,6-diisopropylanilino)tropone (L1) and 2-(2,3,4,5,6-pentafluoroanilino)tropone (L2), respectively. The mixed cyclopentadienyl-anilinotropone compound 3 was synthesized by reaction of the lithium salt of with CpTiCl3. The Cp-mixed micro-O bimetallic complex 4 was also isolated as a by-product owing to the adventitious presence of moisture. The molecular structures 1-4 of have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Complexes 1 and 2 are isostructural and exhibit a C2-symmetric octahedral geometry, with a trans(N,N), cis(O,O) arrangement in complex 1, but with a trans(O,O), cis(N,N) arrangement in complex 2. The Cp-mixed complex 3 has a distorted square-pyramidal structure with the Cp ligand in the apical position. Bimetallic complex 4 shows a similar coordination geometry for the five-coordinate titanium atom and a pseudo-tetrahedral coordination for the second metallic centre. All new complexes, when activated with methylaluminoxane, are active in the polymerization of ethylene and propene.

Dichlorobis(cumylcyclopentadienyl)titanium(IV).

The title compound, [Ti(C(14)H(15))(2)Cl(2)], belongs to a class of complexes that are potentially active as pre-catalysts in the stereospecific polymerization of olefins. In the crystal structure, molecules lie on C(2) axes with pseudo-tetrahedral coordination around the Ti atoms. Conformational features of the compound are discussed, in conjunction with calculations that demonstrate the existence of other energetically favorable conformations in addition to that found in the reported crystal structure.

Bis[N,N'-diisopropyl-N-(trimethylsilyl)benzamidinium] di-mu-chloro-bis[tetrachlorozirconate(IV)] dichloromethane disolvate.

The structure of the salt of the di-mu-chloro-bis[tetrachlorozirconate(IV)] anion and the N,N'-isopropyl-N-(trimethylsilyl)benzamidinium cation, (C(16)H(29)N(2)Si)(2)[Zr(2)Cl(10)].2CH(2)Cl(2), is reported. The anion lies about an inversion centre and shows a substantially octahedral coordination around Zr, while the structure of the cation is unequivocally assigned as that of a benzamidinium ion.

Two orthopalladated chromophores.

The title compounds, [5-(dimethylamino)-2-[N-(4-methoxyphenyl)iminomethyl]phenyl][N-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-nitrosalicylaldiminato]palladium(II), [Pd(C14H11N2O4)(C16H17N2O)], (I), and [4-(diethylamino)-N-(4-methoxyphenyl)salicylaldiminato][2-[N-(4-methoxyphenyl)iminomethyl]-5-nitrophenyl]palladium(II) dichloromethane hemisolvate, [Pd(C14H11N2O3)(C18H21N2O2)]*0.5CH2Cl2, (II), both contain push-pull chromophores coordinated to Pd in a square-planar arrangement. In both compounds, the five-membered orthopalladated ring is essentially planar, while the coordinated six-membered ring is not. Deviations from a coplanar arrangement of the phenylene rings of the coordinated Schiff bases are observed in both (I) and (II) as a result of intramolecular steric interactions.
