Kidney transplants in patients with bladder augmentation: correlation and evolution.

OBJECTIVE: To review the literature, analyse the evolution of kidney transplants (KT) in patients with bladder augmentation (BA) and investigate the relation between BA and KT. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Six patients with a history of severe lower urinary tract dysfunction and BA, received a KT at our Unit between 1993 and 2003. Three had moderate renal failure at the moment of the BA. The remaining three had end stage renal failure. RESULTS: With a follow-up of 7 years (mean) we have a patient survival of 100% and a graft survival of 83%. No complications occurred between the BA and the KT. The few KT complications were not related to BA. CONCLUSION: When a bladder dysfunction is present, it should be treated before KT. In noncompliant bladders, BA is the best treatment. This can be done to try to avoid end stage renal failure or only to prepare the lower urinary tract for reception of the transplant. The presence of a BA did not worsen the evolution of the KT.

[Thyroid metastasis of a renal carcinoma. Case report].

The thyroid metastasis of renal carcinoma is a very rare entity; in most cases, the diagnosis is obtained after necropsy. We report one clinical case of thyroid metastasis from a renal carcinoma presenting as a cold node seven years after nephrectomy. We perform a bibliographic review.

[Paraurethral cyst of the Littre's gland: an exceptional case].

OBJECTIVE: To report one case of paraurethral cyst in the male, located in the subglandular penile urethra, an extremely rare pathology. METHODS/RESULTS: 46-years-old male patient with the diagnosis of Littre's gland paraurethral cyst. Diagnosis and subsequent treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Paraurethral cysts of non traumatic origin are very rare, only two cases are described in the literature, one cyst located at the penoscrotal angle dependent from the corpus spongiosum without connection to the urethra, and another case of inflammation of the periurethral Littre's glands simulating a tumor.

[The presence of a prolene mesh in the vagina].

OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical case of a patient presenting complications after the implantation of a Prolene mesh as reinforcement for the correction of a recurrent cystocele. METHODS/RESULTS: Seventy-five-years-old female patient with history of previous cystocele repair with Prolene mesh presenting urinary incontinence and vaginal erosion of the mesh. CONCLUSIONS: The use of mesh for the repair of cystoceles has the advantage of providing greater support to the colporrhaphy and avoiding recurrences. Nevertheless, it may present complications as in our reported case with mesh migration, fistula, infection, or intolerance.

[High flow priapism. Case report].

OBJECTIVE: We report the case of a patient consulting with a four-year history of priapism, its diagnosis and subsequent therapeutic management. METHODS: We reviewed the literature for etiology, types of presentation, discussion of the clinical and radiological findings, and differential diagnosis. RESULTS: The patient underwent the embolization of the internal pudendal artery with excellent results. CONCLUSIONS: The embolization of the internal pudendal artery is an effective treatment for the resolution of high flow priapism secondary to arterial venous fistula.
