[Substantiation of group MPEL for dispersive anthraquinone dyes].

The article presents results of the toxicological studies of 65 replaced anthraquinones: amino-, diamino-, haloido-, hydro- and oxianthraquinones. A similar polytropic toxic action was identified. MACs for anthraquinones, alpha-aminoanthraquinones and K-type dispersal dye-stuff were established at 5 mg/m3. The toxicity properties of 11 other dispersal dye-stuffs with anthraquinone and NF disperser were studied. Similarity in the toxic properties of the dispersal dye-stuffs and those of the earlier standardized anthraquinone derivatives were established. The group MACs for the pigment and NF disperser containing dispersal anthraquinone dye-stuffs at 5 mg/m3 was established and subsequently formally adopted. A possibility of chemical assessment of dye-stuff dust concentrations against NF disperser (MAC at 2 mg/m3) was taken into account.

[Interaction of active chlortriazine dyes with blood proteins].

The study was undertaken to analyze the capacity of organic active chlorotriazine pigments to make contact with blood serum proteins. It was established that pigment toxicity was inversely correlated to the capacity of making contact with blood serum proteins (r = 99%) and directly correlated to the capacity of making contact with albumin (r = 96%).

[Use of metabolic and pathogenetic criteria in group standardization of organically active chlortriazine dyes].

The article presents research data related to the biotransformation, intoxication mechanisms and pathogenic properties of chlortriazine dye-stuffs. All the dye-stuffs studies were characterized by similar intoxication properties and pathogenesis, and were related to the 3rd class of hazardous substances. The MAC for the organic chlortriazine dye-stuffs constituted 2 mg/m3.

[Studies of the dependence of alkoxycyanodiphenyl toxicity on structure with the aim of health-related group standardization].

The article presents results of toxicity and hazard effects studies of alcoxicyandiphenyl CnH2n+ 1OC12H8CN with n = 1-8, octilcyandiphenyl and octildiphenyl. Toxicity parameters were established in animal tests and on isolated mitochondria, and inhibiting concentrations were calculated. Correlation was established between the alcoxicyandiphenyl detainment in high-performance liquid chromatography and the inhibition rate constant. The allowable and hazard levels are also specified.

[Problems related to regulation of toxic substances].

Intensification of chemical load on humans and nature requires a complex approach to regulation of hazardous substances. Extensive setting-up of sanitary standards has no significant positive effect on natural and technological environment. Due to more thorough approaches to research it is necessary to establish MACs for major pollutants. It is advisable to regulate substances having no actual risk of intoxication. Regulation activities need the development of the All-Union Data Base. Epidemiological studies accompanied by active participation of practising sanitary physicians should be said for MAC development.

[Use of the data of quantitative analysis of organo-systemic distribution of tumors in the evaluation of real hazards of chemical carcinogens].

The study was concerned with objective criteria for identification of actual carcinogenic hazards. It used quantitative analysis data on morphologic structures of tumors induced in 12565 albino noninbred rats in the course of carcinogenicity evaluation of 112 chemical agents. The totality of all the data were analyzed versus morphologic parameters of tumors and carcinogenicity of the agents. Spontaneous tumors turned to be the cause of death in animals treated with noncarcinogenic or slightly carcinogenic agents whereas a completely different spectrum of tumors were responsible for lethality in those receiving potent carcinogens. It was inferred that increased incidence of spontaneous tumors following treatment with maximum tolerable doses can not be used as a criterion of actual blastogenicity of an agent.
