Investigations on some pharmacological properties of TPP.

The experiments were performed on mice, rats and rabbits. The influence on circulatory, central nervous, and gastrointestinal system in vivo and in vitro, as well as on renal secretory activity was examined. TPP was administered p.o., i.v. and s.c. at the doses 100.0-400.0 mg/kg. Either in a single dose or multiple doses TPP did not evoke any significant effects (as compared with NaCl solution) on blood pressure, heart and respiratory rate, general behaviour, locomotor activity, body temperature, locomotor coordination, ECoG, smooth muscles of intestine in vivo and in vitro, gastric secretion and on the volume and quality of excreted urine. The augmentation of sodium and potassium ion excretion with urine and slight influence on locomotor coordination both after TPP and 6% NaCl seems to be connected with a high content of salt in TPP.

Dormancy of micropropagated sour cherry plantlets.

Micropropagation of fruit trees results in the early onset of dormancy in the young plantlets. Prechilling of shoot cultures of sour cherry cvs Schattenmorelle and North Star at 4 degrees C for 6-8 weeks prolonged shoot extension of the plantlets but longer cold treatments adversely affected shoot growth and survival. Chilling of cultures had no affect on rhizogenesis. No significant influence of ABA, GA(3) or ABA + GA(3) was observed on root development. Gibberellic acid A(3) did not stimulate extension of the shoots, but when supplied together with ABA, it significantly decreased both shoot extension and the number of actively growing apices of plantlets of cv Schattenmorelle. The combined hormonal treatment had no effect on plantlets of the North Star cv.

Synthesis of new arylanalogs of ketamine.

New, seven-step synthesis of arylanalogs of ketamine, starting from easily available phenylcyclohexane derivatives, is reported. Pharmacological investigations on the compounds obtained are described.

Chemical Phenomena↗

The effect of gastronomical concentrations of ethanol on therapeutic effect of cimetidine and sucralfate in rats with chronic gastric ulcers.

Chronic peptic ulcers were produced in the glandular part of the stomach by electrocoagulation of gastric mucosa. Drugs: cimetidine (200 mg/kg) and sucralfate (1000 mg/kg) were given intragastrically once daily for 10 or 20 days, together with ethanol, which was given in a daily dose of 1.8 g/kg, as a 5, 15 or 45% solution. The diluted, 5% ethanol did not impair the healing process either in untreated, or cimetidine- or sucralfate-treated rats. Higher concentrations, 15 and 45%, inhibited healing of the ulcers, particularly the drug-assisted healing process. The 45% ethanol solution after 20 days of administration together with cimetidine or sucralfate completely abolished the therapeutic effect of those drugs in rats with chronic peptic ulcers.

Effect of psychotropic drugs on the development of experimental gastric ulcer produced by different stress-inducing factors in rats.

The anti-ulcer activity of three different doses (1/10, 1/30 and 1/90 of LD50) of imipramine, amitryptyline, chlorpromazine, amphetamine, ephedrine, chlordiazepoxide and meprobamate was studied in two types of stress-produced gastric ulcers in rats. It was found that these drugs given in doses of 1/10 or 1/30 LD50 inhibited in the same degree the development of gastric ulcer-produced by the method of Senay, in spite of differences in their psychotropic activity. On the other hand, when the method of Rossi was used for ulcer production the ulcer-preventing activity of these drugs has been varied. Thymoleptics were most effective and ataractics least effective against ulcers produced by the method of Rossi.
