Many-body partition function and thermal hartree-fock approximations

The hierarchy equations for the quantum thermal density matrices of an assembly of interacting particles in an external potential are derived in a compact form. This approach can complement and finally replace the phenomenological treatment of the thermodynamic properties of quantum gasses, liquids, and solids. We also derive a temperature Hartree-Fock approximation for fermions based on the symmetry properties of the exact hierarchy and finally we discuss the present approximation in relation to that of Kaplan and Argyres [T. A. Kaplan and P. N. Argyres, Ann. Phys. (N.Y.) 92, 1 (1975)].

Characteristics of attenders to community based alcohol treatment centre with special reference to sex difference.

Alcohol misusers attending a London community day treatment centre were interviewed about their drinking habits and the expectations they had of the treatment they were receiving. The results show that the women experienced twice as many alcohol related problems as the men and were significantly more dependent upon alcohol. The men reported that they hoped to improve their health and confidence by coming for treatment.

Occupational risk factors in alcoholism.

This study has investigated the presence and influence of six of the eight risk factors previously identified, which are common to occupations associated with high rates of alcoholism. The factors studied were availability of alcohol at work, social pressure to drink from colleagues, separation from family due to work commitments, lack of supervision, collusion by colleagues, and stresses and strains. The sample was drawn from problem drinkers attending a community drug treatment centre in London. None of the six factors was found to have a significant influence on the development or maintenance of these subjects' alcohol problems. It is concluded that these risk factors, while previously shown to be associated with those who seek medical treatment for the physical consequences of long-term alcohol misuse, are not of significance in the different populations of those who present for psychological alcohol treatment.

Alcoholic housewives and role satisfaction.

Three groups of housewives adhering to strict inclusion criteria were compared along several variables. The groups were patients with non-alcoholic liver disease (N = 19), alcoholic liver disease (N = 15) and alcoholics attending a community treatment centre (N = 13). The study confirms the differences between alcoholics who develop liver disease from those who do not. There was a strong relationship between dissatisfaction with the role of housewife and severity of alcoholism.
