[Painless extra-corporal shock wave lithotripsy using the HM3 Dornier lithotripter].

In a clinical study with a modified shock wave generator supplied by Dornier Medizintechnik for the Dornier Kidney Lithotripter HM3 the requirement of analgetics decreased significantly during Opioid-Analgesia. It could be shown that Extra-corporal Shock Wave Lithotripsy is possible without a central acting drug. Furthermore, a reduction of perioperative morbidity could be observed with the new generator.

[Extra-corporal shock wave lithotripsy using the HM3 Dornier lithotripter with a modified shock wave generator. Initial clinical reports of experiences].

We report on the clinical application of a modified shock-wave generator for the Dornier Lithotripter HM 3. Stone fragmentation, complication rate, and frequency of auxiliary measures were unchanged in comparison to the former generator. The new shock-wave generator led to markedly reduced patient discomfort during treatment, with the result that more than 50% of all ESWLs could be done with sedation only or without any medication.

Analgesia↗

First clinical experience with extracorporeally induced destruction of kidney stones by shock waves.

We performed extracorporeally induced destruction of kidney stones on 72 patients. No complications have resulted from the tissue exposure to high energy shock waves. Clearance studies before and after the shock wave treatment indicate no changes in renal function. The method was used successfully in all patients with stones in the renal pelvis. In none of these patients was an open operation required. Two patients with ureteral stones also were treated with shock waves but had to be operated upon because of insufficient destruction of the stone.

Electric Stimulation Therapy↗

[External mechanical cardiac stimulation. Methods and possible application (author's transl)].

External mechanical cardiac stimulation represents a noninvasive method for myocardial stimulation which has significant advantages of external electric stimulation. This paper describes a new method using pressure- and shockwaves for transthoracic cardiac stimulation. On the basis of animal experiments the potential value of external mechanical stimulation for emergency medicine and various other therapeutic and diagnostic procedures are discussed.
