Elderly mistreatment has become a hot topic--but what society is just now recognizing has been around for a long time. Home care professionals are in a prime position to recognize mistreatment and do something about it. Understanding why it occurs can help providers deal with this issue in a sensitive manner.
The authors describe a consortium model for graduate education in nursing among four regional universities in southern Louisiana. A multi-site collaborative approach was implemented to increase educational opportunities for place-bound professional nurses while increasing institutional cooperation and achieving educational efficiencies. The development, design, and operational components of the consortium are described, and recommendations are presented for nursing administrators and faculty who may consider using a similar approach.
The Intercollegiate Consortium for a Master of Science in Nursing (ICMSN), a partnership among four universities in Louisiana, is a proven articulation model for delivering graduate education in nursing. The authors describe the benefits and challenges of an academic consortium. Recommendations are offered for establishing similar models of multi-institutional collaboration in higher education.
