Assessment of adenoidal hyperplasia.

Adenoidal tissue recovered at surgery was weighed to see if it would correspond with clinical evidence of increased secretory otitis media and nasal blockage. It was observed that adenoidal enlargement was directly proportional to the severity of clinical signs and symptoms. This was also predicted by lateral roentgenogram of the nasopharynx.

Blastomycosis of fronto-ethmoid complex.

Blastomycosis in children is relatively infrequent. Further, osteomyelitis of the frontal bone, which prior to the antibiotic era occurred more frequently and was mostly due to pyogenic cocci, is rare today. We described a case of frontal osteomyelitis in a child due to blastomycosis which occurred in the absence of frontal sinuses. To our knowledge this rare combination of factors has not previously been reported.

Apical pneumatocele.

Cervical herniation of the lung is a rare condition that results from congenital agenesis of Sibson Fascia. Occasionally, this may result from acquired causes like trauma. We report a rare case of a patient who was recently encountered in our Otorhinolaryngological Clinic and who posed an interesting problem of differential diagnosis. The management of such patients requires frequent checkups to safeguard against spontaneous pneumothorax. An otolaryngologist should not be caught unaware as the rhythmic "ballooning" of the supraclavicular area is quite characteristic with forced expiration.

Teratocarcinoma of the ethmoid sinus: review of literature plus a new case report.

We report a third case of an unusual maligant neoplasm of the paranasal sinuses in a 60-year-old woman. Similar cases have been previously reported and called malignant teratoma. In consultation with Ackerman (written communication, February 1976) we propose the term "teratocarcinoma" and believe this is to be a more descriptive term and less likely to be confused with the generic term "teratoma," which is a benign tumor.
