The usage of detergents is included in most of the proposed methods for purification of a membrane bound enzyme (Na+, K+)-dependent adenosine triphosphatase (EK 3.6.1.3). The detergents influence the lipid envelope of an enzyme, which is considered as an integral part of the enzymic molecule, and extract nonactive proteins from the membrane. The aim of the work is measurement of the metabolic number of the enzyme after two-fold treatment with ionic detergent-sodium desoxycholate in brain, renal and heart tissue of a rat. He finds that the desoxycholate alters the metabolic number in the preparations from renal and brain tissue and does not change it in the heart tissue. These differences according to the author are due to differences in the membrane structures of the tissues. The usage of two-fold treatment of enzyme preparations with sodium desoxycholate is unsuitable for purification of (Na+, K+)-dependent adenosine triphosphatase in kidneys and brain.
The authors examined the metabolic number of the enzyme (Na+, K+)-dependent adenosintriphosphatase (EK 3.6.1.3) in adrenalectomized, intact and chronically treated with aldosterone adrenalectomized animals. They accepted the amount of hydrolized ATF/one combining site for an unit of time as a metabolic number. They found that adrenalectomy lowered the specific enzymic activity in renal tissue and did not alter in the brain tissue. Aldosterone, administered intraperitoneally, in a dose of 10 mg per 100 mg of body weight daily for a period of 5 days, increased the specific enzymic activity in the examined both tissues. The metabolic number of the enzyme diminished after adrenalectomy in the brain and kidney and increased over the level of the control animals after administration of aldosterone.

A dermatoglyphic study was carried out on a group of patients with primary and secondary hypogonadism, the results being compared with a control group of healthy males and females. The analysis of the data reveals that the morphogenesis of the hand skin relie on those patients results from the interaction of the determinative effect of the sexual chromosome, the differentiating effect of the hormonal state and from the eventually suffered intralaterine infection. In this way certain aspects of the etiopathogenesis of the disease are revealed and the genetic value of the dermatoglyphic method is underlined.
A total of 51 patients with gunshot injuries of the chest and the abdominal cavity were treated at the Emergency Aid Institute "Pirogov" in Sofia from 1967 to 1976. The series included 45 men and 6 women, with a letality rate amounting to 21.5 per cent (11 patients). In 41 per cent it was a matter of abdominal injury where the letality was the highest (33 per cent). Chest injuries included 33 per cent with 12 per cent letality, while combined chest-abdominal injuries included 26 per cent with 14 per cent letality. Involvement of the small and large intestine showed the highest incidence of all abdominal organs (37 per cent). Traumatic-hemorrhagic shock and acute respiraotyr insufficiency prevailed. The operative tacties resorted to was strictly individual. In combined lesions of treatment of respiratory insufficiency, parenchymatous organs and major blood vessels has priority over the treatment of hollow organs.
In animal experiments the effect of lymph drainage from the thoracic duct on acute pancreatitis was studied. Experimental animals were dogs. Drainage was performed by inserting a catheter into the thoracic duct. Compared with control animals without drainage, values of amylase and lipase in blood, urine, and peritoneal exudate were lowered, the enzyme activity in lymph was elevated. The dogs with drainage survived for a longer time, the macroscopic and microscopic changes of the pancreas were less expressed.
The authors described in details the technique for cannulation of the terminal part of the main lymph ductus in dogs. They shared their experience in operating 23 dogs. The authors described the approach to ductus thoracicus, cervical region and most frequent difficulties connected with its finding and preparation. All encountered anatomic variants of the chest ductus were presented. The most critical moment of the operation--introduction of the cannula in the ductus was described in details and the authors proposed some technical methods enhancing quicker and easier cannulation.
Two cases of tubercular meningitis, with a course under the form of severe acute encephalitis are discussed. The significance of those forms are emphasized, especially from diagnostic point of view, and the importance of the paraclinical investigations are stressed upon as well as the epidemiological data for the diagnosis.
