[A new biopsy needle in the laryngological diagnosis].

An own constructed biopsy needle is described. The technique is applied in the deep tissue pathological lesions (neoplastic, mycotical and for bacterial infiltrations). The mean application is of endophitic infiltration diagnosis of the larynx. The authors stress the fact, that the needle seems to be useful in the pathomorphological diagnosis of the neck and breast tumors.

[Use of sensitizers and photo laser for diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors].

The authors present a new and original method of destroying neoplastic tissues with the use of a laser light. Photodynamic therapy (PTD) requires three components: the photosensitizer, oxygen and light. This method is a promising for treatment on a many specialty including head and neck area. Advantage of PDT ist possibility several times radiation the carcinoma cells. Photodynamic therapy is application for diagnostics and treatment carcinoma and when the conventional therapy is not possible.

[Plastic surgery of the trachea after laryngectomy].

Authors present new method of wind-pipe plastic operation post laryngectomy. In this method perpendicular scores of the skin are performed and special external sutures are made which stretch tracheostomy foramen to order to obtain wide inside measurement of wind-pipe. 78% operated patients may be without tracheotomy tube.

[Regarding patient nourishment after laryngectomy].

Authors remember own method of location of stomach tube in laryngectomy patients and they give a detailed description of technic of this one. Authors discuss advantages and faults of this manner. They also present long-term observations in 54 patients who have undergone total laryngectomy and another way of location of stomach tube.

The clinical efficacy of Vertigoheel in the treatment of vertigo of various etiology.

In this paper the authors describe the clinical efficacy in treatment of vertigo of various etiology. A group of 31 patients were treated with Vertigoheel medication: 14 patients suffered from vertebrobasilar arterial insufficiency, 8 patients were diagnosed as Meniere's disease, 5 patients complained of vertigo of traumatic origin and 4 patients suffered from neuronitis vestibularis. The authors found regression of clinical symptoms in the majority of cases in the investigated group who were treated with Vertigoheel.

[Plastic surgery of the trachea after laryngectomy enabling breathing without a tracheotomy tube].

Plastic operations of trachea which enable to breath without the tracheotomy tube post total laryngectomy were presented by authors. Those operations were performed immediately post laryngectomy or also some time post remove larynx operation. In the first case the suitable "modeled" fold of the skin is made, in the second case the metallic half-loops are implanted. Results authors have received so far are encouraged to use of those methods.

[Remarks on creating skin flaps in so-called closed two-step tympanoplasty].

The most often used skin-flap techniques in one-step and two-steps closed tympanoplasties are discussed. The correct plastic surgery of the meatal skin gave good results. In the ENT Clinic of the Medical Academy in Lódź techniques most often used are two-flaps tympanoplasties with anterior and posterior pedunculated flaps or tympanoplasties with a single pedunculated flap.

[What do we know about Ludwig van Beethoven's deafness?].

The authors described some details from the life of Beethoven, emphasizing his problem linked with his progressive deafness. The etiology of the deafness is not known. The authors discussed their own hypothesis of "music language".

Recording of electrical-evoked responses from a remote field in the vestibular part of the eighth nerve. A preliminary technical report.

The paper discusses the results of the author's own studies concerning the recording of electrical responses evoked from a remote field in the vestibular part of the eighth nerve. The studies are of experimental nature and they were carried out repetitively in guinea pigs. Particular attention is paid to an apparatus specially designed and constructed, permitting to obtain stimulation of adequate quality of vestibular organs, and to receive and average short (up to 10 ms) evoked vestibular potentials. Different variants of elimination of bioelectrical muscular disturbances and of the auditory pathway are proposed.
