[The neurological essence of the "traumatized shin" syndrome].

Fractures of the shin are often accompanied by injuries of muscular and cutaneous branches of the tibial and fibular nerves. In patients with a similar trauma there appears a polyvalent complex of pathological reactions and functional disorders. An experience with treatment of patients with the above pathology allows a conclusion to be made that treatment of neurites should be started from the very first days of admittance of the patients to the hospital.

[Early complex treatment of fractures of leg bones and peripheral nerve injuries].

A retrospective analysis of results of treatment of 104 patients with fractures of long tubular bones associated with injuries of peripheral nerves has shown complex therapy to be necessary. Main components of this treatment were biogenic stimulators, vitamin B12, spasmolytic and dehydration drugs in combination with electrophoresis with potassium iodide and thermal procedures. Rapid disturbance of conductivity of nerve trunks after trauma should be followed by revision of the given segment of the extremity in order to remove hematoma and make reposition of displaced fragments of the bone, which can provide recovery of the disturbed function of the nerve.

[Status of local cerebral blood flow in experimental animals after transfusions of cerebrospinal fluid from patients with cerebro-subarachnoid hemorrhage and epileptic patients].

Acute and chronic rabbit experiments (n = 35) have demonstrated the changes of the local cerebral bloodflow in the frontal, parietal, and temporal lobes of the brain of animals transfused (through cannules implanted into the lateral ventricles) 0.6 ml of the patients' liquor. Transfusion of the CSF from epileptics resulted in a drastic increase of the local cerebral bloodflow, whereas transfusions of the CSF from patients with cerebro-subarachnoidal hemorrhages lead to decrease of the bloodflow intensity. These changes were recorded in 5 min after the transfusion and persisted for 3 h, their degree correlating with the disease severity. The observed responses were more intensive than those to transfusions of artificial liquor or convalescent CSF.

[Clinico-immunologic evaluation of the sequelae of closed craniocerebral injuries].

Sixty-four patients were examined clinically and immunologically at a long-term period following craniocerebral trauma. In patients with a history of head trauma impaired adaptation mechanisms were shown to underlie the neurologic disorders, which was reflected in changes in the natural immunity system. The severity and duration of natural resistance impairments were correlated with the gravity of clinical manifestations. The study of the time-course of natural resistance parameters allows the objective evaluation of the degree of central nervous system recovery following closed craniocerebral trauma.

[Role of structures in the left temporal lobe of the brain in the etiology of emotiono-affective disorders in epileptics].

The characteristics of the constant emotional background and of paroxysmal affective disorders were studied in a series of 226 patients with temporal epilepsy, including 131 who had undergone either open or sterotaxic surgery. According to the nature of the emotional pathology, all the patients were divided into four groups. Noticeable dependence was ascertained between the intensity of emotional changes and the extension of the epileptogenic zone. The emotional-affective pathological manifestations noted in patients with the right-side versus left-side localization of the epileptogenic focus are compared. A conclusion is drawn that the localization of the epileptogenic focus (foci) in the mediobasal temporal formations of the left hemisphere causes more frequent and pronounced disorders of the emotional behaviour in patients suffering from different epileptic paroxysms.

[Effect of single-stage stereotaxic destruction of Forel's field H on neurologic functions and the structure of paroxysms in patients with generalized epilepsy].

The structure and frequency of epileptic paroxysms and neurologic symptoms were analyzed in nine patients with generalized epilepsy in the early period after one-stage stereotactic Forel-H-destructions. The inhibitory influence of the operation on epileptic activity in this period is demonstrated and the variants of neurologic deficit are depicted. The early post-stereotactic investigations are shown to be promising for improving the efficacy of surgical treatment of generalized epilepsy and for gaining a better insight into Forel-H-functions.
