[Role of the attitude to work in the rehabilitation of patients with breast cancer].

The nature and changes of motivation for work as well as occupational rehabilitation planning were studied in 50 cases of radical mastectomy for breast cancer. The approach was based on the general principles of psychology and some methods of pathopsychology. Patient's motivation for work was found to be one of the major factors leading to occupational rehabilitation, the latter being less dependent on the stage of disease and surgical procedure in patients with stable motivation. The role of the immediate social environment and its beneficial effect on rehabilitation are also discussed.

[Importance of the method of timely external drainage of the pancreatic duct in transduodenal papillectomy and pancreatoduodenal resection].

With the aim of prophylaxis against postoperative pancreatitis in transduodenal papillectomy and pancreatoduodenal resection the authors have elaborated the technic of a provisional external drainage of Wirsung's duct by means of a controlled transnasal drainage. Ten operations were performed using this technic. There were two deaths. The recommended technic provides a free outflow of the pancreatic juice from the pancreas outwardly during several days after the operation.

[Technic for performing biliodigestive anastomoses in cancer of the pancreas and periampullar region].

Palliative treatment was employed in 183 patients with cancer of the pancreas and periampullary zone. In most of them the decompression of bile passages was accomplished by means of cholecystogastroanastomosis. The authors have modified the routinely used technic of cholecystogastrostomy. The latter procedure was supplemented by external draining of bile passages by means of a controlled transnasal drainage tube. The technic concerned seems to be recommended for constructing biliodigestive anastomoses in cancer of this region due to relative satisfactory indices of the postoperative mortality (15+/-6%).
