[Immunologic aspects of macrolide antibiotics].

The authors investigated in an experimental and clinical study the part played by the macrolide antibiotic, tylosine, in the elevated immunological reactivity of the present population to Erythromycin. The first assembled results justify the statement that tylosine used in veterinary practice (sometimes without control) may indice acrossed immunological reactivity against Erythromycin. The authors discuss also other undesirable manifestations after Erythromycin administration. The assembled data confirm the need of an aimed and controllable administration of antimicrobial preparations in human as well as in veterinary medicine.

[Evaluation of pulmonary function in children of preschool age treated in the neonatal period with distension methods].

Within the framework of a long-term follow up of the development of neonates with low birth-weight the authors investigated pulmonary functions in a group of 20 children aged 5.5 years treated during the neonatal period on account of early asphyctic syndrome, hyaline membrane syndrome and bronchopulmonary dysplasia by the distension method, using a continual positive pressure. The birth-weight of the investigated children varied between 600 and 1500 g. While the authors observed a significant reduction of the forced vital capacity, as compared with the appropriate values for the given age, sex and anthropometric data in almost 40% of the children, the values indicating obstructive changes (one-second vital capacity - FEV1 and mean flow rate - FEV25-75%) were reduced only in 15% of the investigated children. The revealed changes detected during the symptom-free period with a normal clinical picture are the functional background for aimed prevention of chronic bronchopulmonary disease and effective rehabilitation.

[Use of prostanoids in the diagnosis and treatment of bronchial reactivity in children].

The bronchoconstrictive effect of prostaglandin F2 alpha was investigated in 24 school children suffering from obstructive lung disease. In all the investigated substance was administered by 2-minute inhalation, consecutively in doses of 0.06-0.12-0.25 and 0.5 mg with subsequent evaluation of pulmonary functions 1, 3, 6 and 10 minutes following inhalation. The trial was terminated when a drop of values indicating obstruction of the bronchial system by 20%, as compared with initial values, was recorded. While in healthy children the resistance of the air current did increase even after a high concentration of the administered substance, a provocation concentration in the patients was achieved already with the dose of 0.06 mg. The bronchodilating effect of prostaglandin E2 administered in a dose of 0.05 mg in eight asthmatic patients was very intensive but short and disappeared within 3 minutes after administration. From a therapeutic aspect the tussigenic effect of prostaglandin E2 played a more important role.

[Immunologic reactivity of tylosin and erythromycin].

The authors investigated the antibody response to erythromycin and tylosine in experiments and in a clinical investigation. The results proved in 90-100% a crossed immunological reactivity of the two macrolid antimicrobial preparations. In view of the wide use of tylosine in veterinary practice and its presence in residues of slaughter animals as well as in serological tests, it is very probable that this preparation participates in a major way in the increased incidence of allergic reactions against erythromycin in humans. Clinical results confirmed this assumption.
