An examination of family and migration career correlation--an application of the non-parametric analysis methods to the results of the retrospective study--life course (Family Occupational and Migratory Biography), 1988.

The authors analyze the relationships between family life cycle events and migration using data for Poland. "Two main questions have been asked....1. how does migration influence the future family career of [an] individual? 2. how does an event in [the] family career, e.g., birth [of] a child, influence migration options? Two methods of non-parametric analysis were taken into consideration...a method of standardization and [a] method based on the theory of dependent competing risks. Conclusions following from the application of the competing risks model correspond to those drawn from the method of standardization."

Behavior↗

[The net probability of occurrence of demographic events and type of distribution].

"In this paper two methods of calculation of the net probability were analysed thoroughly--[the] Schwartz-Lazar method and [the] Chiang method--in consideration of [the inherent assumptions] in these methods...in reference to examined distributions, and [the] effect of these assumptions on calculated net probability...." Demography↗

[An attempt to use graph theory for the description of demographic events].

"The possibility is discussed of using graphs to describe a sequence of demographic events such as births, marriages and deaths. Among all sequences of demographic events those with perturbations are singled out. The following perturbations are defined: childlessness, premature termination of childbearing caused by the death of the female or termination of marriage due to divorce or death of spouse, remarriage of females and pre-marital births."
