[Surgical orbital decompression in Basedowian optic neuropathy. Apropos of 5 cases].

Surgical orbital decompression in 5 patients with basedowian optic neuropathy restored the visual acuity and visual field in all cases. The place of surgery among the different therapeutic options proposed for this serious complication of Basedow's disease is discussed, as well as the advantages over other decompression techniques of the procedure used : the cutaneous approach to a trans-ethmoidonasal decompression.

Adrenal Cortex Hormones↗

Acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy. A long-term follow-up.

Acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy is now perfectly documented on clinical and angiographic findings. Gass has emphasized the good prognosis and the infrequency of recurrence. Some cases have, however, multiple recurrences and loss of sight. It seems of interest to discuss the long-term prognosis of acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy.

Adult↗

[Trabeculectomy. Long-term retrospective study].

Long term follow up of 51 eyes treated by trabeculectomy between 1975 and 1978. The pressure remains below 20 mmHg in 94% of our cases and progression field loss is stopped in 60%. The control of pressure needs adjunction of a medical treatment in 47% of cases. Progression of glaucomatous field loss is stopped when the ocular pressure is very low (40% or more of initial pressure). Cataract is seen in oldest patients. These observations suggest that: glaucoma surgery must give a sufficient drop of ocular pressure in all cases with pressure between 15 and 20 adjuvant medical therapy is useful old patients are a poor material for glaucoma surgery.

Age Factors↗

[Multifocal inner choroiditis: pseudohistoplasmosis. The European form of the presumed American histoplasmosis].

We studied nine patients with the picture of presumed ocular histoplasmosis. All patients had the characteristic triad: punched out peripheral lesions, peripapillary atrophic scar and disciform process in the posterior pole. All patients had negative test for histoplasmosis (electrosyneresis). Four patients were observed for a long period (8, 8, 7 and 4 years). In two cases we could observe the first step of the basic choroidal lesions. One of these patients fundus was previously normal. Age, female to male ratio and in one case mild inflammatory lesions were similar to a new entity: multifocal choroiditis. The cause of European disseminated inner choroiditis remains unknown. There may be one or multiple causative agents including unidentified fungus.

Adolescent↗

[The glaucoma of encephalo-trigeminal angiomatoses].

A study of 9 cases of trigeminal noevus flammeus was performed. Eight had congenital glaucoma and where followed from 1 to 10 years. Only three had intracranial involvement. Hemangiomatosis was often atypical: including cavernous hemangioma, association with cutis marmorata telangiectatica congenital and bilateral involvement. Glaucoma was a mild congenital glaucoma in all cases improved by surgical treatment. Surgery was easily performed and a superficial capillary network on the sclera was seen in all patients. No genetic factor was demonstrated in our patients.

Brain Neoplasms↗

[Preretinal neovessels in toxoplasmic uveitis].

Preretinal and prepapillary new vessels developed in a case of severe ocular toxoplasmosis. Fluorescein angiography failed to demonstrate any area of ischemic retina. Neovascularization disappeared with medical treatment and ocular inflammation resolution.

Child↗

[Cytomegalovirus retinitis in acute leukemia].

The authors reported a Cytomegalovirus retinitis in an acute leukemia. It appears differently in each eye: localised seats of retinitis in one eye, and central venous occlusion associated with central artery occlusion in the other eye. The clinical polymorphism of herpes group virus is discussed.
