Attempts to infect Leucophaea maderae by feeding them with matured proglottids of Hymenolepis nana var. fraterna, show that only a few embryos are able to go through the midgut wall. During this passage, the parasites induce in the host a cellular reaction into the epithelium and an hemocytic reaction outside. Further development does not occur and embryos cannot reach the cysticercoïd stage.
Enzyme polymorphism at 42 loci was compared before and after a major epidemy of swine fever in wild boars from northern Vosges (France). No change was observed in the 38 monomorphic loci, but allele frequencies at the phosphoglucomutase locus PGM-2* changed significantly. Possible causes for this observation are discussed, and it appears that PGM-2 locus could be a genetic marker of resistance to this viral disease.
In relation with the recent outbreak of leishmaniasis in Greece, the authors undertook entomological investigations for delimiting the foci of transmission. A first survey, during june 1977, in continental Greece, gave 6 633 sandflies with 21% of P. major and 20% of P. perfiliewi. Captures are analysed for each species with systematic and epidemiological comments.
When embryos of Hymenolepis nana var. fraterna are injected abdominally, they are able to reach the cysticercoid stage in the haemocele of Leucophaea maderae which naturally resist to infection by ingestion of the eggs. The haemocytic defence reaction of the cockroach and the structure of the surface of larvae are examined and compared with development in a natural host Tenebrio molitor.
Development of non-encapsulated cysticercoids of Hymenolepis nana var. fraterna, in the haemocoele of Leucophaea maderae occured after the inhibition of the haemocytic reaction by irradiation or injection of a soluble antigen of Hymenolepis nana. Fine structure of the tegument of free larvae is observed and the mechanism of a possible defence of the parasite by the microvillar coat, discussed.
From 1976 to 1978, thirteen cases of malaria have been reported from France. Ten of them occurred in the vicinity of the airport Roissy-Charles de Gaulle. The entomological investigation which is described there have been performed to evaluate risk of local transmission and to plan prophylactic measures.
