[Longitudinal study on the abrasion of plastic teeth in total prostheses].

After a period of two years, the abrasion rate for standard plastic lateral teeth is one-tenth of a millimeter. The abrasion rate is then one-tenth of a millimeter per year for each succeeding year. A vertical loss of approximately four-tenths of a millimeter, for example, occurs during a five-year period. The abrasion rate is not related to the position of the prosthesis. The molar region shows a lesser degree of abrasion than anterior sections of the dental arch.

[Kinetics and load distribution of supported free-end prostheses. IV. Effect of the saddle curvature on the saddle resp. abutment kinetics and the load distribution in prosthesis beds without abutments].

The influence of the saddle curvature on abutment tooth kinetics and abutment tooth stress was studied with unilateral rigid and movable free-end saddle dentures. The results showed that, independent of the length of the saddle and/or of the saddle curvature, considerable horizontal and vertical extrusive abutment tooth stress is present in addition to vertical intrusive abutment tooth stress. The saddle kinetics are basically influenced by the form of the saddle. The kinetics cannot be altered appreciably because of the mechanical characteristics of the connecting elements; it can only be surpressed at the cost of increased pier stress.

[Clinical, bacteriological and histological mucosal findings in the regions of bridge pontics].

Clinical, bacteriological and histological findings based on 30 bridges with ceramic and metal members showed that covering large mucosal surfaces need not lead to severe inflammatory changes of the mucosa or papilla. If the intermediate members have to rest on a punctiform or small surface of the alveolar crest on hygienic and tissue-sparing grounds, the use of glazed porcelain or--with certain reservations-- of highly polished metal can be justified when required for phonetic, functional or aesthetic reasons.

[Studies on the stability of total prostheses].

1. The load capacity of complete upper dentures objectively proved greater than that of lower dentures. 2. The load capacity and, consequently, the stability of position of the lateral area of upper dentures objectively diminished with advancing time of wearing, but increased in the lower jaw. 3. The stability of complete dentures is not determined exclusively by the quality of the denture bearing tissue. 4. The measured stability of position of complete dentures did not correspond with the subjective impression of full function; in general, this was stated to be as good as ever by all patients.
