[Evaluation of various indicators of cellular immunity in persons exposed to work environment in the Masovian Refinery and Petrochemical Plants in Plock].

In 137 workers of the Mazovian Refining Petrochemical Plant cellular immunity parameters were examined. The following tests were performed: number of E rosette forming cells (T lymphocytes), TG and TM lymphocytes, EAC rosette forming cells (B lymphocytes), MIF generation and suppressor and cytotoxic activity of T lymphocytes. Workers of Asphalt Oxidation Division exhibited most pronounced deviations of the test parameters, as compared to controls.

[T-lymphocytes with a receptor for the immunoglobulin Fc fragment in the blood of multiple sclerosis patients].

In 12 multiple sclerosis patients and 15 healthy subjects the suppressor activity in vitro by the method of Shou et al. was determined parallelly with the number of T-lymphocytes with the receptor for the Fc fragment of immunoglobulin G (TG lymphocytes). In healthy subjects a correlation (p less than 0.05) was demonstrated between the suppressor activity of lymphocytes in vitro and the number of TG lymphocytes in the peripheral blood. On the other hand, in multiple sclerosis patients a decrease was observed frequently in the suppressor activity of these cells in vitro (especially during exacerbation of the disease) while the number of TG lymphocytes in the peripheral blood was normal or raised sometimes. Different causes of the this phenomenon in multiple sclerosis are discussed.

Adult

Suppressor cells function in healthy persons.

The investigations were performed on lymphocytes isolated from peripheral blood of 26 healthy persons aged from 20 to 68 years. The following parameters were evaluated: T suppressor cell activity in two-step culture, concanavalin A (Con A) responsiveness in three-day culture and number of T lymphocytes carrying receptor for Fc portion of immunoglobulin G (TG cells). A slight increase in T suppressor activity and diminished responsiveness to Con A have been shown to be age-dependent. A correlation has been found between suppressor cells activity in vitro and the percentage of TG cells (r = 0.62, p less than 0.05). The level of suppressor activity of lymphocytes was independent of their Con A responsiveness.

[Mitogenic activity in vitro of lysosomal proteins of peripheral blood granulocytes in patients with multiple sclerosis].

Incorporation of 3H thymidine was investigated in cultures of lymphocytes obtained from peripheral blood of 33 multiple sclerosis patients and 20 healthy controls in presence of PHA or lysosomal proteins from granulocytes. The number of T lymphocytes was determined also in the peripheral blood of these patients. A rise was observed in the mitogenic activity of proteins obtained from lysosomal granules of granulocytes of multiple sclerosis patients at the time of disease exacerbation with a fall of this activity at the time of remission. At the same time a fall of T-lymphocyte count was observed in the blood of multiple sclerosis patients. The correlations between 3H-thymidine incorporation into lymphocytes in vitro, and the mitogenic activity of proteins obtained from lysosomal granules of granulocytes and the count of T lymphocytes are discussed.
