[Analysis of stresses in modified resin-bonded cast fixed partial dentures].

In 1973, ROCHETTE introduced a periodontal splinting method that involved bonding of cast perforated retainers to the acid etched lingual surfaces of anterior teeth, using a resin. Nowadays, there have been a number of reports on the clinical performance of the adhesive bridges. The objective of this investigation was to photoelastically evaluate the forces exerted on the supporting structures of abutment teeth by modified resin-bonded cast fixed partial dentures. Four modified designs were tested and a traditional fixed bridge used as a control design. This study indicated that the resin bonded cast fixed partial denture with the lingual chamfer margin and mesial rest was the design to be chosen.

Dental Abutments

[Clinical and histopathological investigation of pontic-mucosa relation on bridge prosthesis].

The studies carried upon the pontic-mucosa relation, show that inflammatory changes take place in the adjacent soft tissue. It was also reported that inflammatory reactions were observed in the 95% of the cases following the removal of the prosthesis. In this study the clinical and histopathological data of the cases showing pontic designing complaining about their prosthesis, were evaluated. Clinically in almost all the bridges there was a question of collapsing and pressure upon the mucosa, particularly at posterior group bridges. The histopathological examinations of the sections taken from the underpontic mucosa having hyperemic appearance, showed bleeding regions, degeneration and descuamation in epithelium, and chronic inflammatory cell infiltration at the surface regions under epithelium. These findings prove the chronic inflammatory process in the mucosa under the bridge pontic.

Dental Abutments

[The use of a modified adhesive bridge in a diastema situation (case report)].

Replacement of maxillary anterior teeth in patients with natural diastema present problems that are further complicated if the patient wishes to preserve the spacing. This report describes a means of replacing a missing anterior tooth, while maintaining a midline diastema. The treatment that we utilized was insertion of a modified adhesive bridge. And also, maxillary lateral teeth restored with laminate veneers. In the adhesive fixed bridge, the pontic and the retainer were connected by a loop. Treatment with a modified adhesive bridge is a reversible, simple, and conservative technique.

[Standardization of the tooth numbering systems].

When identifying a specific tooth, dentists list the dentition, arch, quadrant and tooth name. There are several systems of naming and coding teeth. It is necessary that the dental team be familiar with all systems so that communication between dental offices is possible. In this article, the most popular systems are reviewed and their advantages, disadvantages are discussed. These systems are Universal, Palmer and FDI. Also, other systems are summarized. The Palmer/Zsigmody notation have been used widely in the world, but caused problems in typing and printing. And also, it is not suitable for computer processing. The FDI two-digit system helps to prevent errors when differentiating between right and left sides of the mouth or between upper and lower dental arches. It also has advantages when typing and is capable of being incorporated in computer languages.

[Investigation of depression using Beck depression inventory in dentistry students].

The aim of this study is to investigate the depression prevalence using Beck Depression Inventory between the students attending to the first and last classes of Dentistry Faculty. We expected to find low depression prevalence in the first class students and high depression prevalence in the last class students. In the study, we have Beck Depression Inventory which included twenty one sentences to 84 Dentistry Faculty students. The results were evaluated by the psychiatrist. In conclusion, expected consequences were supported. We found that depression percentage was above 50% among Dentistry Faculty students.

Adolescent

[Photoelastic stress analysis of fixed-removable partial denture which had bar and Ceka-Anchor attachment].

In our study, we constructed fixed-removable partial prosthesis, which are supported by teeth and tissue for patients who exhibited extensive tissue loss. In these prosthesis the localization of the precision attachments on the bar and the stress conducted to the abutment teeth by changing the number of splinted teeth and inclination of the bar were compared with photoelastic analyses and the results were evaluated. The photoelastic material used was Araldite/B and its catalyst was HT 901 fitalic anhydrate. The models constructed with these materials were examined in photoelastic polariscope and fringes occurred due to the force applied were photographed and analyzed.

Dental Stress Analysis

[Effect of dowel space preparation on the integrity of the apical seal].

Fifty-six single-rooted maxiller teeth obturated with amalgam, N2 and AH26 were tested in vitro to determine if dowel space preparation had an effect on apical seal. Dye penetration was evaluated using 210 UV Spectrophotometer and it was observed that the use of AH26 with or without gutta-percha to seal the root was the most suitable technique on apical seal and dowel space preparation did not influence the sealing ability of it.
