Internal bleaching of severe tetracycline discolorations: four-year clinical evaluation.

Two hundred fifty-eight teeth severely discolored by tetracycline were treated with an internal bleaching technique. Endodontic treatment was required in all teeth before the walking bleaching procedure could be undertaken. Four years of clinical and radiographic evaluation revealed good esthetic results for all patients. Endodontic procedures were considered to be successful, and not one patient showed external cervical resorption after 4 years. This type of treatment is a valid alternative to porcelain laminate veneers for those teeth that exhibit severe tetracycline discoloration and in which the dental enamel and anatomic crown are intact.

Magnetic resonance imaging as an adjunctive diagnostic aid in patient selection for endosseous implants: preliminary study.

The use of magnetic resonance imaging as an adjunctive aid to determine the amount of bone available and the anatomic limitations for the placement of endosseous dental implants is introduced. Advantages and disadvantages are discussed. The results suggest that magnetic resonance imaging can provide, without the need for a reformatting software program, adequate information concerning the amount of bone and anatomic limitations for placement of endosseous implants in the mandible and maxilla.

[Endodontically treated teeth. Success--failure. Endorestorative treatment plan].

More and more often the general dentist is finding the presence of endodontically treated teeth during his treatment planning procedure. He has to ask himself if the endo-treated tooth functions and will continue to function function successfully, when deciding which final endo-restorative procedure to apply. For this reason the dentist or the endodontist with whom he works should clinically evaluate these teeth, establish a diagnostic criteria of their success or failure and a treatment plan according to the prognosis. The purpose of this article is to offer an organized clinical view of the steps to follow when evaluating an endodontically treated tooth and how to establish a final endo-restorative plan.

[Desmoplastic fibroma. Differential diagnosis of a periapical lesion from endodontic failure].

Treatment of endodontically involved teeth requires accurate diagnosis of the clinical pulpal condition to determine the primary cause of pathosis. The case presented shows the differential diagnosis between a desmoplastic fibroma and a failure of a misdiagnosed endodontic treatment. The initial direction of treatment should had never been the endodontic therapy but local surgical curettage of the lesion.

[Suggestions to improve dentist-endodontist collaboration].

Referrals from the general dentist to the endodontist are in some occasions complicated with lack of proper communication among dentist-patient-specialist, resulting in the loss of confidence or even the patient. Suggestions to improve this communication are discussed, which will provide the patient a higher confidence in the indicated endodontic treatment and a better dental service. It will also enhance the prestige of the general dentists' and specialists' practice.
