[Menstruation disturbances in a 17-year-old girl with coeliac disease].

The case of 17 year old girl with coeliac disease and menstruation disturbances was described. The patient began to menstruate regularly at the age of 15 during gluten-free diet. After the change to gluten diet bleedings occurred every 10 days. When she again went on free-gluten diet regular menstruations came back. These disturbances may be connected with introducing gluten to the diet.

[Epileptic seizure as the first neurologic symptom of Recklinghausen disease in a 10-year old boy with a brain tumor].

Epileptic seizure as the first neurological symptom in von Recklinghausen disease (Neurofibromatosis type 1, NF 1) in 10 year old boy with cerebral tumour was described. Non-typical location of von Recklinghausen disease in central nervous system, characteristic for neurofibromatosis type II (NF2), besides rare manifestation of cerebral tumour in the form of generalized convulsions, without neurological focal and brain oedema symptoms induced us to describe this case.

Brain Edema↗

[Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis in twins].

Two cases of the pyloric stenosis in twins were described. Etiology of the illness stays still difficult to explain. It is generally accepted that pyloric stenosis has multifactorial inheritance. Familial occurrence of the illness in twins suggests this etiology.

[Vomiting as a symptom of a developing psychological eating disorder in a 15-year old girl].

A case of difficulties in diagnosis of anorexia nervosa in a 15-year-old girl is reported. Before 1960, anorexia nervosa was rarely recognized, and bulimia was not known, as a nosological entity. Over the last two decades the occurrence of anorexia nervosa and bulimia has been on the rise. The disorders of ingestion usually begin as merely dietetic habits. However, they may, lead to heavy losing of weight accompanied by emaciation. Successful treatment depends on appropriate therapy managed by a psychologist, psychiatrist and endocrinologist.

[Obstruction of biliary tracts in infants].

Three cases with the biliary tracts obstruction in infants are reported. Similar early clinical symptoms were subsequently distinguished by the serious of the diagnostic examinations. That allowed for undertaking proper treatment. The prognosis in congenital biliary tract obstruction depends on the child's age time of the operation and in the cases of the inflammatory ethiology depends on the proper antibiotic therapy.

[Vasculitis in the course of chronic juvenile polyarthritis].

A case is described of vasculitis in the course of chronic juvenile polyarthritis in a 14-year-old boy. The course of chronic juvenile polyarthritis complicated with vasculitis led to an irreversible disability due to necrotic changes in the locomotor system.

[Diagnostic difficulties in diagnosing disseminated lupus erythematosus in childhood years].

A case is described of diagnostic difficulties in disseminated lupus erythematosus (DLE) in a 15-year-old boy. DLE of childhood is characterised in its initial phase by significant variability of clinical symptoms and signs which is the cause of small per cent of appropriate initial diagnoses. Introduction of modern immunological tests makes establishing of early diagnosis easier, especially in diagnostically difficult cases.

Adipose tissue distribution and behaviour of selected gastro-entero-pancreatic hormones, glycaemia, growth hormone and somatomedin C in obese children.

Twenty-three boys and 30 girls with simple obesity aged 12-16 years were investigated. The values of insulin, C-peptide, glycaemia, gastrinaemia and pancreatic polipeptide (PP) were measured in a fasting state and 30 and 60 min. after meal--at the beginning and after 3 weeks of reductive diet and physical exercise. The study of growth hormone and somatomedin C was deemed relevant to the issue in hand. Considerably higher insulinaemia and C-peptidemia values accompanied by impaired metabolic clearance of insulin and lowered glucose utilization in children with significant accumulation of adipose tissue in the abdominal area (waist/hip ratio p > 0.95), may constitute a possible predictor for diet-controlled diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular system diseases in adult age. Evaluation of adipose tissue in obese children makes it easier to indicate subjects exposed to complications at a later age. Low-caloric diet and physical exercise bring about a decrease in insulin secretion and an increase in its metabolic clearance. At the same time, glucose assimilation by cells is intensified.
