A case of papillary thyroid carcinoma arising in a thyroglossal duct cyst is reported. The tumour is rare and is usually not suspected pre-operatively, and it is almost invariably only on histological examination that it is diagnosed as malignant. The clinical and pathological features are reviewed and management is discussed.
A case of avascular necrosis of the lesser curve of the stomach following a highly selective vagotomy (HSV) for a gastric ulcer is reported. It is fortunately rare, but is a frightening complication. The necrosis, which is presumably ischaemic in origin, is caused by total devascularization of the lesser curvature of the stomach. The complication is usually diagnosed late and has a considerable mortality.

Renal cell carcinoma (hypernephroma) rarely develops as a primary tumor outside the normal confines of the kidney. Although many reports of so-called extrarenal hypernephroma may be found in the literature, very few cases appear to fulfill modern criteria for tumors of true renal origin. Strict criteria for the diagnosis of true extrarenal hypernephroma are proposed, and a case that partially conforms to these standards is presented.
