[Subacute brainstem hematoma. A surgically treated case].

We report a case of pontine haemorrhage in which symptoms and signs developed over a 2-months period. Surgery was successful but the patient subsequently died. The pathophysiology of subacute and chronic symptoms and signs is discussed.

[Classical special investigations in hospital neurology. Evaluation of their diagnostic contribution (author's transl)].

A quantitative analysis of the diagnostic contribution of the classical special investigation normally used in hospital neurology. Six examinations were studied: laboratory blood investigations, electroencephalogramm, lumbar puncture, optic fundus, standard skull X-ray, standard spine X-ray. The analysis involved 548 patients in whom 2219 examinations were performed with a yield of 26 "corrected" diagnosis (a diagnosis in which there was a clinical error corrected in the light of the results of these examinations).

[Effects of percutaneous heterosegmental electric stimulation (electro-acupuncture) on the nociceptive flexion reflex in man].

A comparative study of the effects of electro-acupuncture of the HO KU point and of a placebo control point were carried out in man, taking as an objective test of pain the threshold of a pain induced flexion reflex. In the absence of electrical stimulation of the HO KU point, or of the control point, no variation in the painful reflex threshold was seen. This remained stable throughout the experimental session. However, electrical stimulation of the HO KU point resulted in a 115 p. 100 increase in the reflex threshold, whilst that of the control point resulted in an increase of 20 p. 100 in the threshold of the same reflex. These results are discussed on the basis of data in the literature.
