An interactive computer program for determining areas bounded by drug concentration curves using lagrange interpolation.

The LAGRAN method of Rocci and Jusko for determining the area of plasma concentration curves has been implemented in a user-friendly form. Drug concentration versus time data may be entered using the keyboard or imported in the form of simple text files from spreadsheets or other software. The MSDOS program allows prompt graphic observation of the data. The effect of selecting different fitting modes for each segment of the curve may be viewed interactively using this graphic display. Pharmacokinetic parameters that are provided by the program include mean residence time, variance of the residence time, plasma clearance, and steady-state volume of distribution.

A digital timing system for a small animal respiration pump.

A digital timing system has been developed to control the airflow from a respiration pump used in small animal pulmonary measurements. Three separate periods of up to 10 sec may be selected with millisecond resolution using thumb-wheel switches. A modular design using CMOS technology minimized the number of interconnections among the various parts of the system. A larger number of timing channels, longer time periods, and greater time resolution may be achieved by directly extending the existing design.

High current pulser for transmural and field stimulation.

The determination of the requirements and the design of a constant current pulse generator with low internal resistance capable of providing the high currents required for transmural and field stimulation of biologic tissues are described. It is concluded that direct measurement of current flowing and voltage applied to electrodes is the best way of monitoring stimulus parameters.

An inexpensive microprocessor-controlled multichannel scaling system for in vivo radiotracer studies.

A multichannel scaling (MCS) system has been developed to monitor the biological distribution of radiotracers in vivo. The design of this system permits the simultaneous collection of data from up to four radiation detectors. The evolution of detected count rates is displayed in real time as a histogram with a minimum channel width of 1 s. Each point in the data arrays can accommodate more than 16 million counts. The low-power Schottky integrated circuits used can readily process the maximum count rates that sodium iodide detectors can produce. The four counting units together with control circuitry were constructed on a single custom IBM PC expansion board.

An inexpensive bipolar stimulator.

The design of a pulse generator for electrical transmural stimulation is described. The device produces pulses of alternating polarity with amplitudes continuously variable up to 120 V and output currents limited to 6 mA. Pulse widths may be varied from 1 to 5 ms with repetition rates from 1.7 to 40 pulses per sec. A gate signal may be applied to inhibit output so that bursts of pulses may be generated.
