Regional anesthesia for office procedures.
Many minor surgical procedures can be performed successfully and safely with regional anesthesia in an office which is properly equipped.A careful history and physical examination should never be omitted. Oxygen with a breathing bag and mask and an ultra short-acting barbiturate for intravenous use should always be available and ready for immediate use. When proper aseptic technique and the previously mentioned precautions are observed, the variety of diagnostic and therapeutic blocks and minor surgical procedures which can be performed in an office will depend upon the ability of the physician using them.
