Fröhlich mass in GaAs-based structures.

The Fröhlich interaction is one of the main electron-phonon intrinsic interactions in polar materials originating from the coupling of one itinerant electron with the macroscopic electric field generated by any longitudinal optical (LO) phonon. Infrared magnetoabsorption measurements of doped GaAs quantum well structures have been carried out in order to test the concept of Fröhlich interaction and polaron mass in such systems. These new experimental results lead one to question the validity of this concept in a real system.

[Transmission of an 18 ring chromosome in two generations in subjects of normal phenotype].

We report the clinical and cytogenetic findings on three cases with ring chromosome 18. These patients are phenotypically apparently normal. The 18 ring chromosome was segregating in two generations. In the available literature, we found only one report of a r (18) transmission through generations, and none report of case without giving any phenotypic effect or mental retardation.

[Intercalary de novo deletion of chromosome 1: del(1) (q24 to q32)].

We present one unrelated girl with a de novo interstitial deletion of a segment in the long arm of chromosome 1 (q24----q32). Comparison of the phenotypic characteristics of this proband with those of six previously described patients with similar deletion, does not suggest the existence of a 1q interstitial deletion syndrome. Clinical manifestations of these patients are variable and non specific: intrauterine growth retardation, low set ears, height and weight failure and mental retardation, clinodactyly of the fifth fingers. Other well detailed cases will be necessary to prove the existence of a 1 q interstitial deletion syndrome (q24----q32).
