Polyvinyl chloride work boots in the management of shoe dermatitis in industrial workers.
A sugar refinery worker developed allergic contact dermatitis of his feet secondary to rubber accelerators in his work boots. The dermatitis resolved when polyvinyl chloride work boots were substituted. The importance of controlling hyperhidrosis in the management of foot dermatitis in workers is discussed.

Pityriasis rosea in a patient with epidermolysis bullosa dystrophica.
A patient with clinical and histologic features of epidermolysis bullosa dystrophica-recessive (EBD-R) developed superimposed clinical lesions of pityriasis rosea (PR). Electron microscopy showed distinct "blebbing" of basal cells at the basement membrane zone in clinically normal skin of a non-predilected area, as well as in scarred skin from a predilected area and a lesion of PR. An increased susceptibility of the basement membrane zone to proteolytic enzymes is suggested as a possible hypothesis to explain these observations.

Delayed hypersensitivity to retrobulbar injections of methylprednisolone acetate.
A patient with chronic cyclitis developed hyperemia of the episcleral and bulbar conjunctival vessels after retrobulbar injections of methylprednisolone acetate suspension. Intradermal testing revealed the responsible allergen to be methylprednisolone acetate; hypersensitivity could not be demonstrated by patch testing, despite use of increased concentrations.

Allergic contact photodermatitis to para-aminobenzoic acid.
Allergic photocontact dermatitis developed in a patient to a commercial sunscreen preparation containing para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) in an alcohol base. Photopatch testing showed photosensitivity to PABA. Sensitization could only be detected when PABA was tested in an alcohol vehicle; a photopatch test to PABA in petrolatum was negative.

Contact dermatitis from use or misuse of soaps, detergents, and cleansers in the workplace.
Personal hygiene is considered traditionally important in the prevention of occupational skin disease. Contact dermatitis may result not only from the correct use of soaps and detergents, leading to excessive or inappropriate exposure, but also from incorrect or inappropriate use of these products.
