[Wandering spleen torsion].

The ectopic spleen characterizes for absence of its suspensory ligaments and a long pedicle that are predisposed to complicate it for a torsion with commitment of the venous drainage at first and arterial at a later time himself, producing increase of its volume and infarct. This anomalous situation, it can be had to a congenital malformation of the development of its suspensory elements and fall toward the inferior abdomen or else to an inferior growth of the mesodermic yolk of that this organ originates itself. The suitable treatment is the laparoscopic splenopexy, but when it exists infarction, it is no possible avoid the splenectomy.

Child↗

[Comparison of the levels of serum ferritin and other hematologic parameters in males and pre-menarche and post-menarche females].

Our study group consisted of 43 healthy preadolescence and adolescence of which 17 were boys and 13 premenarcheal and 13 postmenarcheal girls. Haematocrit, haemoglobin, serum iron, transferrin saturation, total iron-binding capacity, latent iron-binding capacity and serum ferritin were analyzed. Authors found that post-menarcheal girls are at lower levels than boys and that menstrual blood loss is a significant factor in determining iron status.

[Vascular sutures using polyglycolic acid in growing arteries. Experimental study].

Vascular anastomoses, carried out in a growing vessel, have certain peculiarities, since with the development of the artery a stenosis may remain in the suture zone which can compromise its success. We believe that the suture material should be absorbable. We carried out an experimental study in which we performed 18 anastomoses of the femoral artery in dogs using 5/0 polyglycolic acid sutures and vascular microsurgery technique. In no case, on reoperating, did we find the existence of stenosis, granuloma, false aneurysm, or disruption. Polyglycolic acid begins to be reabsorbed after one month of evolution, and after two months the reabsorption is almost total. Biological tolerance is optimal.

Monosomy 22 with humoral immunodeficiency: is there an immunoglobulin chain deficit?

The cytogenetic analysis of a patient with selective deficit of IgA and decrease in IgM, IgE, and IgG is presented. Using trypsin-Giemsa banding the karyotype showed monosomy 22 (45,XX,-22). The interest of this case lies in the rarity of the illness and in the association of monosomy 22 with hypogammaglobulinaemia and selective deficit of IgA, particularly as this chromosome is known to contain genes coding for immunoglobulin chains.

Aneuploidy↗

[Holt-Oram syndrome with chromosomopathy (author's transl)].

A patient whose cardiac and skeletal malformations are compatible with Holt-Oram syndrome is presented. The interest lays in the fact that cytogenetic shows and excess of chromosomic material in the long arm of the sixth chromosome. Authors consider this to be a "de novo" finding as the study practiced on the parents has been normal. This chromosomic anomaly has not been, to their knowledge, reported in the literature. All known cases have a normal karyotype.

Abnormalities, Multiple↗

[Anorexia nervosa. Presentation of two cases].

Two patients with anorexia nervosa were studied. One of them showed cerebral atrophy by computed tomography (CT) of the brain. This finding has been reported previously in three cases. No other reports have been found in Spanish literature. This data could be merely a CT finding. Etiopathogenic and therapeutic evolution is discussed. Behavior modification, based in experimental psychology was used in treatment. Hypercaloric and hyperproteic feeding was also used.

[A dynamic study of HGH, zinc and copper in diabetic girls. Preliminary report].

A dynamic study study on secretion of HGH in diabetic girls under the combined stimulus of L-dopa and L-arginina is performed. Serum levels for Zinc and copper are measured. Results show that as HGH increase, copper levels decrease. Correlation (r = 0.81, p = 0.05) points to an inverse dependence of both parameters. Concomitantly, the values obtained for zinc and copper are correlated (r = 0.82, p = 0.03). During stimulation, all patients showed an increase in glycemia and a significant correlation between both parameters was found (r = 0.76, p = 0.05).

[Serum zinc during labor and in the newborn infant at term].

A study of serum zinc by atomic absorption spectrophotometry was carried out in peripheral blood samples form a group of 30 full-term mothers and umbilical cord samples from their newborns. Peripheral blood samples from 15 non-pregnant healthy women and umbilical cord samples collected within the first 24 hours in 20 healthy newborns were also obtained. Serum zinc in non-pregnant women yielded higher values which were significant (p less than 0,01), any way, the level of significance was higher when authors compared full term pregnant women with full term newborns in the first day of life.

[Septate gallbladder and acute cholecystitis in a four-year-old girl (author's transl)].

A case of a four year old girl, first seen at the emergency ward for an abdominal pain, is reported. Exploration revealed a mass at the right hypochondrium which a laparotomy labeled as a dropsy gallbladder with a complete transversal septum at the union of the gallbladder's body and infundibulum. Microscopic examination showed an acute cholecystitis. A classification of septate gallbladders is performed and embryology revised. Microphotographs of human embryo are presented making etiopathogenesis of this case understandable. The scanty bibliography on this topic makes this case extremely rare.

Acute Disease↗

[Ataxia-telangiectasis (author's transl)].

A case of ataxia-telangiectasis is reported, the pattern of cellulo-humoral immunity is altered with frequent infection of the respiratory tract. Emphasis is made on the new approach to brain alterations by means of cerebral angiogammagraphy and sequential gammagraphy.
