[The histopathological study of the bronchopulmonary carcinoma].

PURPOSE: The aim of the study is to reveal the predominant histological types of the bronchopulmonary carcinomas diagnosed at the Pneumology Hospital in the period of 1st January 1996-December 31 1998. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study enclosed 196 cases of CBP, representing 174 men and 22 women with ages between 31 and 78 of years. The studied specimens were pieces of bronchoscopical and surgical biopsies, material obtained from the pneumological clinic. RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS: The histological analysis revealed the increasing number of the bronchopulmonary carcinoma, mainly to men with mean age of sixty and the predominance of the epidermoid carcinoma (137) and a reduced number of cases of adenocarcinomas (31) and undifferentiated carcinomas (28). The knowing of the histological type of the CBP is very important in the calculation of the prognosis. CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrate the predominance of CBP at men (174), with ages between 55 and 65 years (127 cases) and similar incidences for all histological types of CBP comparative with other territories.

[Chronic cough--etiological diagnosis problems].

Chronic cough is a common problem in patients who visit physicians. The three most common causes of persistence cough in nonsmokers who were not taking an ACE inhibitor and who had a normal or stable chest radiograph are: postnasal drip, asthma and gastroesophageal reflux. After a viral upper respiratory infection, it takes sometimes seven weeks for bronchial airway hyperreactivity to return to normal. By using a standard protocol, 95 percent of patients with chronic cough can be managed successfully but in some cases it may take even five months or more to determine a diagnosis and effective treatment.

Asthma↗

[Severe asthma: clinical and pathogenic aspects].

Difficult asthma is an uncommon disease (likely < 5% of total asthma). It is poorly understood and often difficult to treat. The first step is to make an accurate differential diagnosis and to avoid the most important factor, which influence the condition of the disease. Between these factors, the exposure to allergens and the gastro-esophageal reflux seems to be the most important. The term is usually applied to conditions that are hard to solve, sometimes dangerous or even life-threatening forms of asthma: corticoid-resistant asthma, corticoid-dependent asthma, brittle asthma, premenstrual asthma and near-fatal asthma.

[Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis in AIDS patients].

We present 4 patients with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis and AIDS which died in Infectious Disease Hospital Iaşi in the interval January 2002-March 2003. The pulmonary tissue from the necropsy exam was stained with H.E., PAS, Alcian blue and Mucicarmine. The macroscopical examination revealed multiple yellow-gray nodular areas (>2 cm) of consolidation. Microscopically, the alveoli were filled with a delicate, granular, acidophil material that was periodic acid Schiff (PAS) positive. The intraalveolar material was Alcian blue and Mucicarmine negative, too.
