[Luxation of the hamate bone. Apropos of a case with review of the literature].

The authors report a case of isolated dorsal dislocation of the hamate bone. An open reduction was performed with dorsal stabilisation by ligamentous reconstruction. Study of the literature showed 14 cases (including the case described) 5 of these dislocation were isolated, 5 were dorsal, 6 palmar, and 3 unknown. Surgical treatment was the most frequent. No neurovascular complication has been described.

[Corrections of limb deformities in children with Wagner's external fixator].

The authors describe a method of correction of limb deformities whilst allowing the length of the limb segment to be maintained. The apparatus used was the Wagner external fixator which first allows distraction at the site of an osteotomy followed by correction of angulation with suppression of this temporary lengthening.

Study of the experimental biomechanics of tendon repair with immediate active mobilization.

The authors present a biomechanical study of tendon behavior after primary suturing and early active mobilization. In this animal study (23 specimens), three types of sutures are compared using 2 biomechanical parameters: the load at rupture (R), and Young's modulus of elasticity (E). The authors show that early mobilization does not compromise the final strength of a tendon. Moreover, early mobilization confers the biomechanical characteristics of resistance and elasticity more closely akin to those of the normal tendon. Pathoanatomical examinations confirm the fibroelastic reaction of cicatrization and the mechanical role of mobilization in the orientation of newly formed tendon fibers.

[Recent isolated fractures of the tibia in the adult].

A series of 80 cases of recent isolated fracture of tibia in adults demonstrated the specific problems raised by this type of fracture, related for the most part to the integrity of the fibular splint. A resulting therapeutic attitude is based on a biomechanical study, the place of osteotomy of the fibula being discussed: orthopaedic treatment is suggested for fractures without displacement, under strict radiologic surveillance, and surgical treatment for fractures with primary or secondary displacement. The indications for fibular osteotomy are reviewed.
