[Miotics and occlusion in the treatment of accommodative strabismus].

Antisuppressive occlusion is an intermittent occlusion prescribed in order to eliminate suppression. This way, the system of vergences is reactivated which results in a stabilisation of the position of the eyes and reduces asthenopic complaints. Miotics are used to treat a recent or intermittent convergent squint. Miotics can equally be used to remove positive glasses and to reduce a visible postoperative recurrence.

[Photoscreening].

Photoscreening is a photographic method to determine whether a child's eyes focus properly or not. This method can be used from the moment the child is able to fix, which is around six months. Photoscreening allows us to detect a hypoaccommodation and to determine the minimal optical correction to prescribe. It is used to evaluate the postoperative position of the eyes and shows the dominant eye. This eye should be occluded intermittently in order to prevent amblyopia and/or a relapse of the squint.

[Photographic screening for amblyopia, strabismus and refraction errors].

The authors present a photographical method to screen infants on the presence of refractive errors and squint. The photoscreener indicates an absence of focusing in one or both eyes and/or a squint. This method can be used in mass-screening of siblings, the evaluation of glasses, the monitoring of the effects of occlusion and the postoperative follow-up of patients.

[The treatment of Duane syndrome by a inversion of the right lateral muscle].

The authors describe a new technique to deal with Duane's retraction syndrome. The vertical recti are rotated around their longitudinal axis with saving of the temporal ciliary arteries in order to prevent anterior segment ischemia. The results of 52 patients operated upon are discussed. The technique proved to be successful in the treatment of head posture, esotropia and limitation of abduction.
