Epithelioma cuniculatum: verrucous carcinoma of the foot.

A patient with epithelioma cuniculatum, an unusual, highly keratinizing squamous cell neoplasm of the foot with locally aggressive behavior, is presented herein. Review of the literature reveals several similar cases that are reported under the names of epithelioma cuniculatum, papillomatosis cutis carcinoides, and verrucous carcinoma of the skin. The relationship of this neoplasm to other forms of verrucous carcinoma is noted. Lack of metastatic involvement indicates that a conservative surgical approach should be used, when possible, in the therapeutic management of this lesion.

Cutaneous manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic illness defined and classified according to strict criteria of the American Rheumatism Association. Cutaneous disease may complicate RA or the drugs used in its treatment. Cutaneous vasculitis is potentially a prognostic factor in patients with RA. Controversy exists regarding the role of corticosteroids in the development of rheumatoid vasculitis. Two illustrative cases of RA with cutaneous complications are presented and the joint and cutaneous manifestations are reviewed herein.

Bilateral scalp necrosis in temporal arteritis. A rare complication of Horton's disease.

In an elderly man bilateral temporal scalp necrosis complicating temporal (systemic giant cell) arteritis developed. The patient also demonstrated other features characteristic of this entity: (1) exquisite scalp tenderness and headache, (2) onset late in life, (3) visual disturbances, (4) general debility, (5) diagnostic temporal artery biopsy, and (6) gradual healing with glucocorticosteroid therapy. A computer assisted review revealed 13 similar cases of scalp necrosis associated with temporal arteritis published in the English literature.
