Growth of gold nanoparticle arrays in TiO2 mesoporous matrixes.

An interconnected Au nanoparticle arrangement is obtained by electrodeposition from Au(III) soluble complexes within the pore system of block-copolymer templated mesoporous titania films. The resulting Au@TiO2 nanocomposites (5 nm Au particles, 5.5 nm amorphous titania walls) have the electrochemical behavior of a gold electrode of high surface area. The attenuation of Au surface plasmon due to -OH electroadsorption and the existence of mixed localized states in these Au@TiO2 nanocomposites are observed by in situ spectroelectrochemistry.

Controlled formation of highly organized mesoporous titania thin films: from mesostructured hybrids to mesoporous nanoanatase TiO2.

In this paper, we report the complete synthesis and characterization procedures to generate highly organized and oriented mesoporous titania thin films, using poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)-based templates. Controlled conditions in the deposition, postsynthesis, and thermal treatment steps allow one to tailor the final mesostructure (2D hexagonal, p6m, or 3D cubic, Im3m). Various techniques were used to determine the time evolution of the mesostructure. Spectroscopic techniques (UV/vis, (17)O NMR) and EXAFS/XANES have been used to follow the chemical changes in the Ti(IV) environment. Crossing these techniques spanning all ranges permits a complete description of the chemistry all the way from solution to the mesostructured metal oxide. A critical discussion on all important chemical and processing parameters is provided; the understanding of these features is essential for a rational design and the reproducible construction of mesoporous materials.

Nanotectonic approach of the texturation of CeO2 based nanomaterials.

Original and homogeneous macrotextures shaped with coral-like, helical or macroporous sieves morphologies are obtained following a nanotectonic approach based on the template-directed assembly by poly-gamma-benzyl-L-glutamate (PBLG) of organically functionalised CeO2 crystalline nanoparticles.

Solid state (47,49)Ti, (87)Sr and (137)Ba NMR characterisation of mixed barium/strontium titanate perovskites.

Solid state (47,49)Ti, (137)Ba, (87)Sr NMR spectra have been recorded on BaxSrl-xTiO3 (0 </= x </=1) perovskite samples prepared by the powder sintering method. Multinuclear solid state NMR shows great potential for characterising such systems since the quadrupolar parameters are very sensitive to any geometric deformation around the studied nucleus. (47,49)Ti NMR powder lineshapes appear strongly influenced by the presence of even a small amount of barium (or strontium) in the coordination second sphere of the probed titanium site: substitution of strontium by barium induces the broadening of the peaks, due to quadrupolar effects, while the isotropic chemical shift increases. (137)Ba NMR spectra exhibit a distribution of the quadrupolar interaction, that could be tentatively quantified, CQ increasing with the amount of strontium. Preliminary results were also obtained on (87)Sr NMR showing behaviour comparable to (137)Ba NMR, i.e. a broadening of the peaks due to an increasing quadrupolar interaction with the amount of barium distorting the environment of the strontium sites.
