[Postpartum hemorrhage. Current management].

Post-partum haemorrhage is one of the major worldwide causes of maternal mortality. Better knowledge of risk factors should limit its incidence and short term hazards. In case of excessive bleeding, classical therapeutic means continue to be of major importance. If unsuccessful, modern methods including injections of prostaglandins, vascular ligations, and arterial embolization, should be employed, preserving future fertility.

[Surgical indications in female urinary incontinence].

In addition to artificial urinary sphincters, the surgical management of female urinary incontinence includes many surgical procedures of the bladder neck: its retropubic placement within the confines of abdominal pressure, posterior support preventing effort opening or the reduction of its diameter. Whatever the surgical procedure, surgical indications depend on discomfort and patient desire after complete assessment to evaluate risk of failure and postoperative complications. Choice of a technique depends on the surgeon's individual preference; success rate varies from 50 to 80% after 5 years follow-up.

[Myomectomy using laparoscopy. 23 cases].

The authors report their experience with laparoscopy for myomectomy and analyze their results (mean size of myomas: 7.5 cm, route of extraction: vaginal 56%). This is a recent, promising technique which requires further evaluation.

[Treatment of PT1 tumors of the bladder using transurethral resection and intravesical immunotherapy].

Twenty-six patients with a PT1 urothelial bladder tumour were treated by transurethral resection and endovesical BCG. The authors compared previously untreated patients with patients with a history of bladder tumour present for an average of 4.6 years. The results of this study show that 72% of bladders in the first group were preserved compared with 53% in the second group. 45% of patients in whom the tumour invaded the superficial lamina propria developed a recurrence compared with 100% of tumours with invasion of the deep lamina propria. 25% of patients who developed a recurrence died in the course of this study.
