Trauma: a personal perspective.
1. Empathic caring is essential to deliver high-quality nursing care. 2. As nurses, we need to understand what patients are feeling to help decrease their emotional trauma. 3. Many OR patients do not have the luxury of good support systems, familiarity with caregivers and environment, and a medical knowledge base to enhance understanding.
