Perimortem Caesarean section: two case reports and a management protocol.

Perimortem Caesarean section is a rare clinical event. Two cases are reported. Both cases had poor outcomes. The impact of this was traumatic for the trainee specialists who managed the two cases. Effect of protein source and iron content of infant formula on stool characteristics.

Formula-fed, term infants were evaluated in two studies that assessed the influence on stool characteristics of protein source and iron content of the formula. Parental observations of infants' stool characteristics were recorded on standard forms. Green was the primary stool color for infants receiving whey-predominant formula containing iron at 12 mg/L. A low-iron (1.5 mg/L), whey-predominant formula produced yellow stools. A casein-predominant, iron-fortified (12 mg/L) formula produced primarily yellow or brown stools, although many of the infants fed this formula also had green stools. Soft stools were common in infants fed either whey- or casein-predominant formulas. However, more infants receiving whey-predominant formulas passed watery or slimy stools than did infants receiving casein-predominant formulas. We conclude that green stools in the absence of signs of disease should be considered a normal variation of stool color.

A thermographic assessment of three intra-articular prednisolone analogues given in rheumatoid synovitis.

1 Three intra-articular prednisolone analogues have been studied in a group of forty-six rheumatoid arthritic subjects. Each compound was tested at 50 mg and 100 mg dose over 3 weeks. 2 The anti-inflammatory effect was assessed by quantitative thermography. Systemic escape of the drug was monitored by plasma prednisolone and cortisol levels. 3 Both the systemic escape from the joint and the duration of effect on injected and uninjected knees were related to drug solubility. 4 Depression of plasma cortisol occurred with all three preparations and was most prolonged with the long-acting preparation. 5 Increasing the dose from 50 mg to 100 mg increased the antiflammatory effect only with the soluble acetate preparation.
