We established that Cu(II) and its complexes with aspirin, indomethacin and cimetidine produced lipid peroxidation in phosphatidylcholine suspension. Ionic copper was found to have the most pronounced effect, while the effect of the complexes depends on the ligand. Neither of the ligands exerted a prooxidative effect. NADH sharply increased the effects of Cu(II) and its complexes. In contrast, in the presence of ascorbate the prooxidative effect of Cu(II) and its complexes decreased. Cu(II) and its complexes strongly inhibited ascorbate-induced lipid peroxidation. Using antioxidant substances, enzymes and copper-chelating agents, we attempted to explain the observed effects of Cu(II) and its complexes.
For the first time in the country are investigated histologically lacrimal and Harderian glands of pheasants, affected by tuberculosis, raised in pens. By histological analysis were reported the results of the cell reactivity in the affected by the tubercular process tissues and organs. Under the influence of the mycobacteria and their disintegration products the tissues react specifically. In pheasants, affected by tuberculosis are established destructive processes in the intraorbital glands. Mainly in the connective tissue of the glands are observed tubercular knots, which morphologically differ from these in the hen. In the interlobular tissue, in the interacinar and peritubular connective tissue exist strongly expressed infiltration with cells of the lymphoid series, phagocytes and heterophils, as a result of the affected-tissue reactivity, on account of the local and diffusional spreading of the tubercular bacillus in the glands.
A statistically significant, after correction of P value, increased incidence of the antigen HLA-DR4 chi 2 = 32.81, p less than 0.001, was established in the comparison of the antigen incidence of HLA-A, B, C and DR antigens in 59 patients with classical and positive rheumatoid arthritis and control healthy subjects. No essential difference in the distribution of DR4 was established that depended on sex, age of occurrence of the disease, presence of rheumatoid factor and the form of the disease.
The effect of Cu(II) and Cu(II) complexes/Cu(II)(cimetidine)2 Cu(II)(glycine) and Cu(II)(glycine)2/on the rat and human erythrocytes was studied. Time- and dose-dependence of the Cu(II) complexes-induced hemolysis, oxidation of hemoglobin and formation of precipitates of denaturated hemoglobin were established. The hemolytic effect of Cu(II)complexes was abolished by strong complexons of Cu(II) and by physiological concentrations of albumin and histidine. The hemolysis greatly decreased in the presence of chelator of Cu(I) and superoxide dismutase, which suggested oxi-reduction transitions and participation of superoxide in the process. The results are considered with the view to clarifying the differences in the stability and reaction ability of the different complexes, the possibility of their parenteral application.

Scintigraphic and radiometric investigation with 99mTc-pyrophosphate was carried out on the sacro-iliac joints of 79 patients: 48 with positive form of Behterev disease, 26 -- with probable form of the disease, 2 -- with Reiter syndrome and 2 -- with rheumatoid arthritis. Scintigraphy was combined with radiometric investigation (determination of sacro-iliac -- sacral index) with a view to obtaining quantitative information about the degree of accumulation of pyrophosphate in sacro-iliac joints. The data from the scintigraphic and radiometric investigations were juxaposed to clinical laboratory and X-ray investigations. Forty of the patients examined were HLA-B27 positive and 38 of them-HLA-B27 negative. Sacro-iliac index, determined in 13 healthy subjects (26 sacro-iliac joints) was within the limits of 1.18 +/- 0.094. The average value of the index of the 78 patients examined was 1.41 +/- 0.20. The index, during the first and second X-ray stage was 1.43 +/- 0.13 and 1.45 +/- 0.19 resp. The values decreased to 1.39 +/- 0.18 during the third X-ray stage, whereas in the fourth stage with completely ankylosis of the joints, the index was 1.20 +/- 0.07, being close to that of the control group of healthy subjects.
With the investigation of HL A phenotypes of 133 patients with an akylozing spondylarthritis, 110 males and 23 females, confirmed incidence of antigen B 27 was established in 87.96 per cent versus 10.78 per cent of 1085 control healthy subjects. The families of 24 patients were also examined with a total of 27 subjects HLA-B27 positive relations, among them 11 cases of SA with a latent course so far. The results from those exminations reveal that HLA-B27 antigen investigations could aid making the diagnosis in cases, suspected of SA, together with the other diagnostic methods.
A procedure was designed for purification of a human seminal plasma-specific antigen (HSP-antigen) identified by a monoclonal antibody produced in this laboratory (mAb 4E6). Pooled human seminal plasma was fractionated by consecutively applied methods: affinity chromatography on Lentil lectin sepharose, gel chromatography on Ultrogel AcA 34 and immunoaffinity on mAb 4E6 coupled CNBr-Sepharose 4B. The antigen-containing fraction obtained after this procedure was proved to be homogeneous when analysed by electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gel. After the consecutive purification procedures the degree of purification was 128 times as compared to the starting material. Electrophoretic analysis of the purified 4E6 antigen under reducing conditions showed that it consisted of 3 polypeptide subunits with molecular weight 70 kDa, 64 kDa and 60 kDa respectively. On the basis of the data obtained from competitive ELISA testing of sera from infertile patients it has been suggested that the identified antigen may be involved in pathogenesis of immunologic infertility.
