Biological properties and clinical application of propolis. IV. The action of ethanol extract of propolis (EEP) on cells cultured in vitro.
An increase of total cell number was shown in the cell culture in vitro under the influence of ethanol extract of propolis (EEP). Addition of EEP to the nutrient medium of the cells caused a strong activation of mitoses. Besides, distinctly intensified metabolism of these cells expressed by a strong activation of NADH2-reductase was also observed.

[Sex chromatin and cytohormone smear in premature and dystrophic newborn during the first week of life].
In newborn females parallel investigations on: a) oestrogenisation symptoms, b) vaginal epithelium smears stained modo Shorr, c) sex chromatin positive nuclei in buccal epithelium smears, have been performed. Low frequency of sex chromatin in the day after birth suggested a relationship between hormone level and Barr bodies' appearance.

The trisomy 18 syndrome with an E/G translocation.
An infant with a typical Edwards syndrome and a modal chromosome number of 46 is reported. In all cells analyzed one chromosome G was missing and an additional chromosome similar to a pair No. 16 was present. The phenotype of the child indicates that the extra element is a translocation between G and 18 chromosomes as in one case described previously.

A female infant with monosomy 21.
A female infant with total monosomy 21 identified by Q banding is described. The main clinical features were hypertonia, prominent occiput, hypertelorism, antimongoloid slant of the eyes, broad nose, "antimongoloid", character of dermatoglyphics. Both parents are phenotypically as well as karyotypically normal.

[Evaluation of the causes of habitual abortion and malformation in children based on cytogenetic examination of parents].
Chromosomal investigations of lymphocytic cultures in 26 couples and 11 women with repeated miscarriages or children with congenital anomalies have been performed. In 5 cases chromosomal aberrations and in 3 cases chromosomal lesions have been found. These results are helpful in genetic consultation and aetiological investigations.
