[Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of the salivary glands: report of a case].

Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma (E.M.C.) is a rare lowgrade salivary gland neoplasm that occurs in both major and minor salivary glands. It is characterized by tubular and solid growth pattern with a dual cell population including an inner layer of epithelial cells which are peripherically bounded by a layer of clear myoepithelial cells. This differentiation is confirmed by electron microscopic and immunohistochemical studies. The differential diagnosis included clear cell tumor of the salivary gland and metastatic renal carcinoma. The majority of these tumours arise in the parotid in women with a peak incidence from the 6th to the 8th decade. We report a case of parotidic E.M.C. in a 33 year old man.

[Hepatobiliary actinomycosis. Apropos of 3 cases with pseudocancerous aspects].

Three cases of hepatobiliary actinomycosis are reported. In all cases, carcinoma was initially suspected. One patient underwent cytoaspiration under sonographic guidance. Diagnosis was obtained by autopsy in one case, laparotomy and biopsy in the other cases. Confusion with cancer is frequent in actinomycosis, especially in hepatic lesions.

Paraganglioma of urinary bladder.

The literature is reviewed and 2 new cases of paraganglioma of the urinary bladder, 1 malignant and 1 benign, are presented. One patient had no classic symptoms of vesical paraganglioma, and diagnosis was made postoperatively by means of light and electron microscopy. Differentiation between malignant and benign endocrine tumor cannot be made histopathologically and biochemically. The preoperative diagnosis of bladder paraganglioma is established when there is a combination of atypical urinary symptoms and elevation of catecholamines in the urine or blood. The risk of dangerous vasomotor changes needs a multi-team approach for diagnosis and surgical treatment. The pathologic features, histochemical reactions, ultrastructural characteristics, histogenesis, methods for early diagnosis, and detection of multiple localizations or metastasis are briefly discussed. A precise family history should be obtained in any patient with an extra-adrenal paraganglioma to facilitate early diagnosis of tumors in previously unaffected family members or of additional tumors in affected relatives.

[Use in histological technic of naphtol AS-D chloroacetate for demonstration of granulocyte series elements].

The authors report their experience of a histo-enzymatic method, using Naphtol AS-D Chloroacetate as a substrate, for the specific demonstration of elements of the granulocyte series, in histological sections, after formol fixation and mounting in paraffin wax. This simple and reliable staining technique offers the possibility of very rapid diagnostic orientation in haematological conditions.

[Enteroid cyst of the spleen: a new entity? Apropos of 2 cases].

The authors describe two cases of non parasitic cyst of the spleen of "enteroid" origin on histological examination. No similar cases have yet seen described in the medical literature that we consulted. The histology of these two cases is quite unusual in that cysts are multilocular and mucoid with a cylindrical mucus secreting epithelium similar to cystic tumours of the ovary. The outcome of the first case remains favorable four years after surgery. As in the case of mucoid or enteroid cyst of the ovary, a disembryological origin seems the most likely explanation of these cyst of the spleen.
