Lupus cystitis: primary bladder manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus.
Clinical and radiographic findings of cystitis are reported in six patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. All patients had clinical manifestations of cystitis; radiography showed the bladder capacities were reduced and the bladder walls were thickened and irregular. Ureterohydronephrosis was found in some patients. Abnormal clinical and roentgenographic findings were reversed with high-dose corticosteroid therapy. These patients had concomitant widespread multisystem manifestations, especially of the central nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. No explanation for the bladder findings could be found other than lupus erythematosus. Urinary bladder involvement may be a primary manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus, sometimes overshadowed by other major organ system disease. Corticosteroids appear to reverse most of the acute manifestations but the long-term prognosis is not known and may not be favorable.

High-resolution ultrasonography of scrotal pathology.
A prototype high-resolution (10-MHz) real-time ultrasonic system was used to study 22 patients who were ultimately proved to have intra- and extratesticular tumors, scrotal fluid collections, and inflammatory processes. In 5 of 6 patients with primary testicular masses, there were areas of decreased echogenicity within the testis when compared with surrounding normal tissue. In general, the method was highly effective in differentiating and characterizing testicular and extratesticular processes.

Multiple germ cell tumors: reports of 3 cases, 1 with 3 primary lesions.
Tumors may develop in both testes, either concomitantly or sequentially. We herein report 3 cases of bilateral testicular neoplasms. One patient had concomitant seminomas of the testes and another had sequential germ cell tumors separated by an 11-year interval. The third patient is an unusual case in that he had bilateral testicular germ cell tumors diagnosed concomitantly 8 years after irradiation of an extragonadal, histologically proved, seminoma in the mediastinum. Evidence suggests that all 3 sites, each testis and the mediastinum, were primary lesions. Standard methods of therapy should be used in the treatment of malignancies.
