Albino rats with severe congenital malformations of the optic nerves consisting of kinks, folds, or loops were examined for possible abnormal central visual projections using the Fink-Heimer method. No abnormal projections were seen in any of the visual areas studied.

Significant susceptibility to photically induced seizures has in the past been observed only in Senegales baboons (Papio papio) and epileptic humans. However, we have unexpectedly observed a photomyoclonic response to intermittent photic stimulation in 5 of a sample of 6 yellow baboons (Papio cynocephalus).
A group of 7 baboon brains was examined for the presence of an asymmetry of the frontal poles. 6 of the 7 brains exhibited an asymmetry in which the right frontal pole was longer than the left by a mean of 1.4 mm. The seventh brain had frontal poles of equal length.
In designing sensory prosthetic implants that operate on the basis of direct electrical stimulation of the brain, the question of the plasticity of the tissue's response to the stimulation arises. Especially relevant is the kindling phenomenon, in which convulsions develop in response to repeated low-level electrical stimulation of the brain, including thalamic or neocortical primary sensory structures. Therefore, caution should be exercised in the development and application of prosthetic devices that directly activate brain tissue for long periods of time.
