[Evaluation of antitoxin and antibacterial activity of human preparations of normal immunoglobulin. I. Level of tetanus antitoxin in preparations of IMIG and IVIG].

The level of anti-tetanus antibodies were measured in 791 lots of IMIG and 330 lots of IVIG of human normal gamma globulin. The antibody levels varied 15-80 IU/ml of IMIG lots and 5-20 IU/ml of IVIG lots. Every lot of human normal gamma globulin (IMIG or IVIG) having high anti-tetanus activity may be an acceptable alternative to specific tetanus immune globulin.

[Evaluation of the usefulness of the antibody binding test for the estimation of the potency of the rabies vaccine].

Two methods of the estimation of the potency rabies vaccine were used: in vivo NIH Test and in vitro Antibody Binding Test (AB-Test). Six series of vaccines were studied, they passed NIH Test. The results of AB-test were comparable with the results of NIH Test. The AB-Test could be used instead NIH Test when the vaccine must be released in short time.

Evaluation Studies as Topic↗

[Evaluation of immunologic response in individuals of various ages to Td vaccine].

Forty adults volunteers 25-65 years received 10 BU tetanus and 2 Lf diphtheria adsorbed vaccine (Td). The tolerance was very good, it was not depended on the age antitoxin level. Eleven persons have not diphtheria immunity before the vaccination. The serological response was determined by the passive hemagglutination in sera collected in 4 week after the vaccination. Only in one serum the level of diphtheria antitoxin was below 0.1 IU/ml. It is recommended than two doses of Td vaccine are necessary for anyone whose last dose of diphtheria anatoxin was given more than 10 years ago especially to persons travelling to other countries at risk for diphtheria.

[Evaluation of safety and immunogenicity of the Td vaccine in laboratory studies].

The new vaccine recommended as the booster dose contains in 0.5 ml: 10 BU Te-toxoid, 2 Lf Di-toxoid, 4.5-0.5 mg Al and 0.01% merthiolate. In 7 consecutive series it was state, the vaccine was safety and stable. The potency was 40-50 JO for Te and 30-40 for Di. The last series was recommended for vaccination under clinical control.

Diphtheria Toxoid↗

[Evaluation of vaccination reactions and serologic responses after Td vaccine in pilot studies].

Fifty six young adults volunteers received 10 BU tetanus and 2 Lf Diphtheria adsorbed vaccine (Td). Reactogenicity was noted in the special formulas, the serological response was determined by the passive hemagglutination in sera collected before and in 4 week after the vaccination. Twelve persons were not immunity for diphtheria before booster. The results confirmed the safety and efficacy of the polish Td vaccine.

[Idiotypic vaccines].

The paper presents some new informations about anti-idiotypic vaccines. It discusses the advantages and disadvantages of these preparations.

Study on the immunological heterogeneity of Clostridium botulinum B type toxin.

The toxins prepared by dialysis-culture method from proteolytic (P) and nonproteolytic (NP) strains of C. botulinum were different. NP toxins from 3 strains (American, Japanese and Polish) showed a higher activation ratio, lower protein nitrogen content, and lower neutralization rate compared with P toxins. Antitoxic titers of rabbit anti-P and especially anti-NP sera were always higher when titrated with NP than with P toxins. The values of the regression coefficients in neutralization experiments were not dependent on the sera preparations, but only on the toxins. The difference between the common slope b for several sera tested against P and NP toxins was statistically significant. A difference between the passive protection of mice against P and NP toxins was observed only at very low levels of unitage. These results suggested immunological heterogeneity of B type botulinum toxin. However, for practical purposes, it is not necessary to supplement therapeutic antitoxin with a factor which neutralizes NP toxin.
