Implementation of QA and QC standards in radiology in Slovakia.

The Slovak government organizes the radiation protection policy through its regulatory authorities within the Ministry of Health, on a central level. The health protection regulations are compatible with international standards and recommendations of the ICRP and the EC. The general requirements on quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) (acceptance, constancy and routine tests), the guidance levels for various types of radiological examinations and the instructions for optimisation procedures are supported by Slovak technical standards, compatible with European standards. But the QA/QC process, as well as the training of the staff, needs improvement. The Slovak Medical University participates in the QA implementation through organising and managing national audits for control of the QA programme. In this paper, we present results of patient dose measurement studies carried out in the Slovak Republic, in the framework of activities of the Slovak Commission of QA established by the Slovak Ministry of Health.

Protective effect of Berotec, Berodual and Atrovent in asthmatics.

The protective effect of Berotec, Berodual and Atrovent (Boehringer-Ingelheim) were compared in asthmatics, before inducing airways obstruction with acetylcholine. Three groups (8 patients in each) were chosen. They were given two doses of the above drugs, from originally packed under pressure bottles, 30 minutes before acetylcholine inhalation. All the drugs provided sufficient protection against the induced acetylcholine obstruction of airways. No significant differences were found in protective effect.

Bronchodilating effects of Berotec, Berodual and Atrovent in asthmatics.

The bronchodilatating effect of one single dose of Berotec, Berodual and Atrovent, has been studied in 28 patients suffering from bronchial asthma. All three drugs had a beneficial bronchodilatating effect lasting for 300 minutes. There were no statistically significant changes between the drugs studied.

Tussiphonogram in probands with chronic obstructive bronchitis.

Tussiphonographic examinations were conducted in 21 probands admitted to hospital with chronic bronchitis, diagnosed by spirometry. Voluntary cough registered in subjects with obstructive chronic bronchitis appeared in the recordings as a marked multifarious sound, an increased mono-sound or a connected double-sound. The average value of cough sound intensity was increased to 244%, and the duration of cough was delayed to 77% when compared to normal values. No correlation was found between the changes observed in spirometric values, and values indicated by the tussiphonogram.

Bronchitis↗

The tussiphonogram during asthmatic attack.

By tussiphonography the voluntarily induced cough sound was registered in the course of asthmatic attacks and in the state of quinescence. Evaluation of the recordings revealed that in the course of the asthmatic attack, the intensity of voluntarily induced cough sound was significantly decreased.
