A rare case of enlargement of a cervical intervertebral foramen caused by epidural metastasis is presented. This unusual etiology should be included when considering the differential diagnosis in a patient who presents with focal enlargement of a cervical intervertebral foramen.
A new system for telecommunication of radiographic images using readily available telephone transmission circuitry is described. The resulting video images were satisfactory for accurate interpretation in 80% of the cases tested. The system is moderately priced and has facilitated maintenance of radiodiagnostic interpretive services at a satellite office form the central hospital location.
Encrustation of bile sediment in the proximal limb of an indwelling T tube may occlude the luman and cause jaundice. The cholangiographic appearance of this phenomenon is described. Insertion of a torque cable under fluoroscopic control can successfully disimpact the occlusion, restoring patency and relieving the jaundice.
A model of the normal anatomy of the capsular attachments of the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus is developed based upon anatomic dissections. The term "fascicles" is applied to the delicate bands of connective tissue which join the posterior lateral meniscus to the joint capsule around the popliteal synovial sheath. The normal anatomic arrangement is illustrated with double contrast arthrograms. Abnormalities of the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus are then demonstrated, emphasizing disturbances of attachment around the popliteal sheath.
Arthrography revealed an abnormal tract of contrast agent dissecting from the suprapatellar bursa into the soft tissue anterior to the patella and downward to a level 9 cm beneath the tibial plateau in a patient with complete rupture of the quadriceps tendon. The bursal anatomy of the anterior portion of the knee is reviewed in relation to the capsule-forming structures of the quadriceps expansion. The use of knee arthrography for the assessment of quadriceps tendon injury is advocated.
