Coordination symmetry-dependent structure restoration function of one-dimensional MOFs by molecular respiration.

One-dimensional metal-organic compounds with cis, trans symmetry-controlled counter anions were synthesized (cis compound {[Cu(azpy)(H2O)2(OTs)2]*2H2O*(acetone)} (1) and trans compound {[Cu(H2O)4Cu(azpy)2(OTs)2(H2O)2]*2(OTs)*2H2O*2EtOH} (2)). Only 2, having trans conformation, exhibited a complete structure-restoration effect with a mechanism involving layering of molecular "bricks" of water and solvent molecules.

The cation as a tool to get spin-canted three-dimensional ironIII networks.

Alkyl-substituted ammonium cations (X) allow the preparation of a series of spin-canted oxo- and oxalato-bridged three-dimensional iron(III) networks, exhibiting magnetic ordering at T(c) values ranging from 40 to 56 K. The value of T(c) varies with the cation despite the lack of significant structural modifications.

Main group element nets to a T.

T-shaped nets (three-coordinated nets with an angular metric, bond angles near 90 degrees, 90 degrees, 180 degrees) are found in a number of extended structures. We explore in this paper the geometrical and electronic consequences of a stricter T-shape metric, where the distances between the vertices of the net are approximately equal and in the range of a chemical bond. Every atom in such a net has a T-shaped environment. One can think of these nets as extensions of BrF(3) or of substructures of various extended tellurium compounds. Several construction principles are found which allow an enumeration of a variety of one-, two-, and three-dimensional T-shape nets; not every three-coordinated net lends itself to the stricter geometrical and distance metric. Not everything is possible; there are no zero-dimensional T-nets, and none made entirely of three atom segments. Previous ideas on electron-rich multicenter bonding lead to a simple way of calculating the magic electron counts for each net; these lie in the range of 6 to 6.67.

A new type of entanglement involving one-dimensional ribbons of rings catenated to a three-dimensional network in the nanoporous structure of [Co(bix)2(H2O)2](SO4).7H2O [bix = 1,4-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene].

Co(II) sulfate reacts with the flexible ligand 1,4-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (bix) to yield the coordination network [Co(bix)2(H2O)2](SO4).7H2O, containing polymeric ribbons of rings which penetrate and catenate a 3D single frame of the CdSO4 topology, to produce an open-channel entangled architecture with nanoporous behaviour.

Novel hetero-bimetallic metalla-macrocycles based on the bis-1-pyridyl ferrocene [Fe(eta 5-C5H(4)-1-C5H4N)2] ligand. Design, synthesis and structural characterization of the complexes [Fe(eta 5-C5H(4)-1-C5H4N)2](AgI)2(2+)/(CuII)2(4+)/(ZnII)2(4+).

The bidentate sandwich ligand [Fe(eta 5-C5H(4)-1-C5H4N)2] has been prepared, structurally characterized and employed in the preparation of the novel supramolecular heterobimetallic metalla-macrocycles [Fe(eta 5-C5H(4)-1-C5H4N)2]Ag2(NO3)(2).1.5H2O, [Fe(eta 5-C5H(4)-1-C5H4N)2]Cu2(CH3COO)(4).3H2O and [Fe(eta 5-C5H(4)-1-C5H4N)2]Zn2Cl4.

Three novel interpenetrating diamondoid networks from self-assembly of 1,12-dodecanedinitrile with silver(I) salts.

The self-assembly of 1,12-dodecanedinitrile (ddn) with various silver salts (NO(3)(-), PF(6)(-), AsF(6)(-), ClO(4)(-)) afforded new polymeric coordination networks with the general formula [Ag(ddn)(2)]X. All these species contain interpenetrating diamondoid nets showing interesting features: with X=NO(3)(-) the cationic [Ag(ddn)(2)](+) network exhibits the highest interpenetration (tenfold) ever found within diamondoid nets exclusively based on coordinative bonds. When X=PF(6)(-) or AsF(6)(-) an eightfold diamondoid network is obtained that shows an unusual [4+4] mode of interpenetration, instead of the "normal" set of eight nets equally translated along a principal axis of the adamantanoid cages. The polymeric species that forms with X=ClO(4)(-) is a fourfold interpenetrating diamondoid network; the lower degree of interpenetration in this case is related to the conformation assumed by the flexible ddn ligands.
