The cellular composition of the cerebral cortex of rat fetuses after fractionated low-dose irradiation.

Histological and morphometric studies were performed to address the characteristics of the morphogenesis of the sensorimotor cortex of the brain in rat fetuses subjected to fractionated gamma irradiation during the period from day 6 to day 18 of antenatal development at doses of 5, 25, 30, and 75 cGy. The results showed that fractionated irradiation at doses of 5-75 cGy had adverse effects on the processes of stem cell proliferation in the tissues of the developing cortex and also increased the intensity of cell destruction proportionally to the radiation dose. All cellular zones of the developing cortex showed increases in the absolute number of macroglial cells, which may be associated on the one hand with reactive increases in their production due to functional deficiencies and, on the other, with accelerated transformation of radial gliocytes into macroglial cells. Irradiation at doses of 5-75 cGy decreased the rate of migration of neuroblasts into the primary cortex, as shown by decreases in the numbers of cells in the neural differon in the neocortical rudiment and increases in their levels in the deep layers of the developing cortex.

[Cellular composition of cerebral cortex in rat fetuses exposed to low-dose fractionated radiation].

Using histological and morphometric methods, the peculiarities of sensomotor cortex morphogenesis were studied in rat fetuses subjected to fractionated gamma-irradiation in the period from 6th to 18th prenatal days in doses of 5, 25, 50 and 25-75 cGy. It that an Exposure to a fractionated radiation was found to negatively affect stem cell proliferation in the developing cortex and to increase the intensity of cell destruction in proportion to the radiation dose. The absolute number of macroglial cells was increased in all the cellular zones of developing cortex, that could be the result of both reactive stimulation of their production due to functional insufficiency, and of accelerated transformation of radial gliocytes into macroglia. Irradiation with the doses of 5-75 cGy caused the deceleration of neuroblast migration into the primary cortex, as indicated by the reduction of cell number in neural differon in the neocortical anlage and cell number growth in deeper layers of the developing cortex.

[Molecular diagnosis and frequencies of primary hypolactasia in populations of RUSSIA and neighboring countries].

The digestion of the milk sugar (lactose) is observed every normal child but not in every adult. The decreased lactase synthesis in some adults results in problems with digestion of the whole milk (primary hypolactasy). An association of lactase activity in adults with carrying of the allele T within the polymorphism C/T-13910 located upstream of the lactase gene and 100% association of hypolactasy with the genotype C/C has recently been shown for a Finnish sample. In the present work we determined the LCT* C/T_13910 genotypes and allele frequencies in populations from Russia. The genotype C/C frequencies varied from 36.6% for Russians to 88.2% for Chukchi and were close to the published medical and epidemiological data on hypolactasy frequencies in respective populations. Genotyping was performed by three different methods to identify the optimal one. Our results have shown that the studied locus is the key determinant for the primary hypolactasy development in various human populations. Consequently, the DNA diagnostics of the C/C genotype carrying is a promising predictive test to detect the primary hypolactasy long before its clinical development. Practical application of this type of diagnostics would be a step towards the individual-oriented medicine.

[Use of correlation analysis of clinical and laboratory data in the treatment of patients with chronic suppurative maxillary sinusitis].

In order to objectivize clinical and laboratory data, we applied P. V. Terentyev's method of correlation analysis as modified by A. N. Zosimov when examining 60 adolescents with chronic purulent maxillary sinusitis. This approach was necessary to choose an adequate method for evaluating the therapeutic efficacy. Analysis of correlations between clinical parameters, blood profile and immune data demonstrated different relationships before and after therapy. The mathematical and graphical models proposed make it possible to evaluate objectively each type of treatment, the results being in agreement with clinical observations. These models can help predict the course of disease.

[Genetic aspects of the frequency of occurrence of suppurative highmoritis].

One hundred and fifty patients with chronic suppurative maxillary sinusitis (89 men and 61 women), aged 15 to 50 years, were examined. A potential correlation between the incidence of the disease and blood genetic markers (ABO-H blood group and Rh-factor) was investigated. No correlation was found between the incidence and ABO-H in that group of patients as a whole. The patients with documented staphylococcal nature of suppurative maxillary sinusitis belonged for the most part to the A (II) - Rh (D) + blood group.
