[Effect of chronic irradiation on the genetic structure of natural populations of Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh].

The genetic structure of Arabidopsis thaliana populations from in the Chernobyl zone of radioactive contamination was studied. The dynamics of genotypic and allele frequencies of eight polymorphic loci were described. Analysis of the results obtained and earlier data revealed selection for loci Per1 and Acp2. Sharp fluctuations of allele frequencies were observed in consecutive generations of chronically irradiated A. thaliana populations. These fluctuations led to replacement of the most frequent alleles, including those close to fixation.

[A comparative evaluation of the efficacy of pharmacotherapeutic agents in hypoxia in the presence of hyperthermia].

In conditions of acute hypoxia in the presence of hyperthermia drugs were shown to exhibit various degrees of protective activity. Antihypoxic action coupled with thermoprotective activity is manifested by beneficial affect on the course of the pathological process. It is quercitrol that proved to be the most effective drug; it is capable of correcting simultaneously the disturbances emerging in different links of the pathological process: effect on the processes of lipid peroxidation and metabolism of arachidonic acid as well as on the activity of enzymes belonging to the monooxigenaze system in the experiment.

[Alteration of polymorphic systems of Centaurea scabiosa L. under chronic irradiation].

Isoenzyme and morphological polymorphism alteration in populations of perennial grass Centaurea scabiosa L. (scaly cornflower) has been studied. These populations exist on the territory of East Ural Radioactive Trace more than 40 years and are chronically exposed to beta-irradiation. Directional shift of allele frequencies on the loci Per1, Pgi2, Sod1, Lap has been detected. The fact of accumulating genetic load by chronically irradiated populations has been demonstrated. Possible reasons of discovered alterations are discussed. The analysis of the obtained data shows that the irradiated populations have greater similarity with one another than with a control, but relation between genetic distances and accumulated doses hasn't been revealed. The hypothesis is that an extra factor--gene flow from a "clean" territory influences the genetic structure of irradiated populations.

[Plastid RNA polymerases].

Plastids have a very interesting transcription apparatus that gives us an opportunity to investigate mono- and multisubunut RNA polymerase interaction under conditions of complex biogenesis of the organelles and the necessity to coordinate the expression of genes located in different cell compartments. The last decade has been a breakthrough in the study of chloroplast RNA polymerases. The most important advances are the discovery of nucleus-encoded RNA polymerase and nuclear gene family for sigma subunits of plastid-encoded RNA polymerase, the obtaining of knockout-mutants on the subunits of plastid-encoded RNA polymerase, and the revelation of this RNA polymerase reorganization during plastid biogenesis. The hypothesis concerning labor division between two plastid RNA polymerases has been proposed. The review focuses on the analysis of modern information about organization, function and evolution of plastid RNA polymerases.
