An examination of 50 children suffering from various forms of scleroderma revealed clinical signs of nervous system involvement. The data of the skin functional parameters pointed to symptoms of irritation of the sympathetic nervous system. Electroencephalographic and electromyographic changes were observed. On being involved into the pathological process the nervous system begins to participate in the further development of the disease.

The paper analyzes a group of 50 patients aged 25 to 55 years who had osteoarthrosis deformans of the knee joint. A control group comprised 10 healthy individuals of the same age. All the patients underwent routine roentgenography in 2 projections and ultrasonography of the knee joint by the procedure of L. Rubaltelli. The main criteria of sonographic destructive joint changes correlate with X-ray signs. The stage of the disease is defined by the magnitude of joint structural changes and by the sequence of their appearance, as shown by ultrasound study.
The exposure of the thymus and articular fissure of the most affected joint to sinusoidal modulated currents proved more effective than only joint exposure. Adjuvant carbon dioxide-sulfurated hydrogen baths add to therapeutic effect of the currents.
The exposure of the joints to ultrasound and sinusoidal modulated currents in combination with radon baths proved highly effective in slowly progressive juvenile rheumatoid arthritis of the first degree of activity.
Children suffering from juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) (n-132) were exposed to low-frequency variable magnetic field. Therapeutic response registered consisted of analgetic and anti-inflammatory effects most pronounced in 14-19 mT regimen. The addition of radon baths to the above exposure resulted in higher effectiveness of the treatment due to involvement of pathogenetic JRA mechanisms.
